Retrontario is proud to be a community partner with the Toronto Jewish Film Festival Archival series. This year's screening will be a trio of 1970s student films capturing the hangouts and attitudes of secular Jewish youth around Bathurst Street. Alan Zweig’s funny and introspective The Boys (1977), with Ralph Benmergui and Joel Axler, follows dateless twenty-somethings during one night. Lawrence Plaza (1973), made by Zweig along with Bernie Lightman and Paul Hutter—friends from Bathurst Heights Secondary School—is a scrappy comedy about awkward college students trying to hook up. And in Eric Weinthal’s Justice (1974), a kid swipes a pack of gum from a Bathurst and Eglinton convenience store and sparks a chase with the cops through the leafy streets of Forest Hill. (Lawrence Plaza and Justice will screen with live filmmaker commentary.)

⚔️MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE CONTEST⚔️
From an era when toys were meant to be played with and not treated like stock portfolios, Mattel’s He-Man and the Masters of the Universe collection hit like a bolt of lightning.
What self-respecting kid from the early 80s didn’t shout: “It’s Castle Grayskull... and it’s MINE!” at least once?
I knew a kid at school who actually had Castle Grayskull, and he instantly became the envy of our class. I can still remember seeing the He-Man display at Simpsons Christmas Toyland back in 1983. Pure Eternia magic.
What’s your strongest He-Man toy memory? The action figures? Castle Grayskull? The Power Sword? That one toy you never got?
Drop your memory in the comments & tag your He-Man bestie for a chance to win a Masters of The Universe Movie prize pack.

⚔️MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE CONTEST⚔️
Growing up in the 1980s, it was a race to get home for that 3:30pm showing of He-Man on Global. Depending where you lived, maybe you caught it before school, after school, or on Saturday afternoons. And if you missed an episode? Too bad. No streaming. No PVR. No second chances.
Plus, who knew what bonkers scheme Skeletor would cook up next? For a lot of us, He-Man was the perfect way to wind down after a hard day at school.
What do you remember most about watching the original cartoon broadcasts? The show itself? The routine? The friends you watched with?
Drop your memory in the comments & tag your He-Man bestie for a chance to win a Masters of The Universe Movie prize pack.
