Citizenne inspires you to be an Everyday Influencer! You can use style to make a difference in your It is a false choice.

These days there is no need to choose between having authentic personal style or living with sustainability as our core ethic, yet the myth persists. Many of us have an inkling at the back of our mind that there IS another way. We've read an article, followed a stylist on Instagram, read a book, but this is all a flood of information without application. So we continue to live in a state where our

Alert! We're all vulnerable to the "impulse buy" right now! Stay at home orders + pre Black Friday sales, oh my! It's so easy to equate retail therapy with or an antidote to boredom.⠀
⠀
But the buzz doesn't last (swipe right to see the stats!) and leads to over spending and buying stuff we don't need.⠀
⠀
If you're shopping for presents, or a sale on something you've been waiting for, that's great! >> use the flow chart to test that thing you've had open in a tab for days. 🤔👍🏽👎🏾⠀

These great infographics from and >> research from zoom in on the psychology of the impulse buy.⠀
⠀
“While people seek happiness and self worth by shopping, the survey results show that they are deeply ambivalent about their own behavior. Stating guilt and shame, people often feel bad about their own useless purchases and overspending habits. Many people realize that shopping does not lead to increased happiness in the long term. Around 50 percent report that their shopping excitement wears off within a day — the binge is followed by a hangover.”⠀

🎵 Hair toss. Check my nails. Baby how ya doin'? 🎵⠀
⠀
You don't have to be Insta perfect or looking as polished as all those gorgeous gals in Lizzo's video to be. . ⠀
⠀
Feelin' good as hell! ⠀
⠀
I got a hair cut last week from Logan . A simple thing, but it felt so good. I took these photos of my hair toss, just for fun.⠀
⠀
Toss that perfection standard aside (from your internal voice, or the voice of others/social media). What's one self-care thing you can do for yourself to feel. . . ⠀

I love collecting brand postcards. The best ones (IMO) tell more of the story of the designer, the people who made my clothes, and even beautifully written instructions on caring for my clothes.⠀
⠀
The next slides tell more of the story. 👀 👖👚 There are 3 really awesome infographics mapping out the entire fashion system! Cynthia at paints a picture of an unsustainable version and a sustainable one. [You'll want to screen shot this one for sure! Go to her profile as mine have not fit all her notes!]

Tell me which part of it was new to you, or surprised you the most? ⠀

Rest In Peace , you didn’t shrink away from using your position or voice for change, and you encouraged us all to do the same.

Was so inspired to create a for my Friday gal pal night out! It’s so fun! Just raid your drawers and accessories boxes and layer up the stories. (This one I think needs some beads. Will have to raid mom’s stash 😍). Thanks and for the inspo!

I'm collecting delight lately. Like choosing the fun lace pants for my birthday. 👀 ➡️ Like cherishing this photo of me with a crooked-ish smile so big my eyes disappeared (Thanks, cousin Heidi xx.)⠀
⠀
Why?⠀
⠀
Dang, these times are heavy.⠀
⠀
In Hong Kong, we hear about a confirmed case of COVID-19 reinfection.⠀
⠀
In Wisconsin another unarmed black man shot by police. ⠀
⠀
These aren't far away impacts, either.⠀
⠀
Yesterday, my husband who teaches high school went in to prepare. It was the first time colleagues had seen each other since March. Everyone was in masks. There were no social gatherings to reconnect or help process the weirdness of the upcoming year.⠀
⠀
There was also a 3-hour mandatory online workshop for unlearning anti-black racism and for black educators to share their experiences. On day one of PD, folks, not day two or three. Very, very important. But also heavy.⠀
⠀
As my friend wrote the other day, having hope and finding joy right now is a discipline, a workout for the heart and mind, just to keep those muscles strong.⠀
⠀
So I collect delight. 💪🏼✨ It helps me keep going.⠀
⠀
See my Stories today. I'm going to repost some delightful style and anything else I find that might bring you 😁🤩😍⠀

Finding yourself right there in the middle? Me too! I needed to see this confirmation this morning! Thx

Specifically for me:

Taking my time: I wanted to post today and give an update on Citizenne’s anti-racist work. First, I took some time to sit with new knowledge and feelings from un/learning in workshops, reading and listening. I continued to interview BIPOC women in our IG Lives (that was just building on work we’ve done from the beginning in 2017 ). We’ve updated our ‘Practices of a Conscious Wardrobe’ thanks to work with educators, activists and WOC, and , but our company statement isn’t ready. This is important. I don’t want to rush just to make a post.

I need a break: new job, new learning on that job, new self care exercise regime, camping (nice but still a lot of work), new time spent with a kid we’re mentoring — I’m tired! I’ll be taking a break from Instagram & IG Lives for maybe 2 weeks. I’ll see how I feel.

Saying no: I’ve got a new special project for Citizenne. To create it I have to preserve my creative energy. And like I said, I’m tired! To say a big YES to the new thing, I have to say NO to social media for a bit.

What about you? Are you in the middle of the Venn or just in one circle right now?

Imagine employment that triples as art therapy and a transition out of homelessness?⠀
⠀
That is exactly the business model of ! In 2016, Laurenda Lee-Retter launched her social enterprise that trains and employs at-risk youth to make fine jewellery, while giving them an outlet to heal mental illness and past trauma.⠀
⠀
You've got to catch our IG Live tonight, Thursday, August 6th, at 8:30 pm to hear more!⠀
⠀
>> swipe 👓 >> to see a pink opal lariat made by one of the youth artisans 😍⠀

Even if you miss our Live, pieces make a great gift for someone you love. Go ahead and support this amazing business with the code CITIZENNE25. All profits go right back into supporting the youth via wages and programming. @ Toronto, C•a•n•a•d•a

A double bill of love tomorrow for my local friends! Every Wednesday you can shop at the 9-3 at the Central Library, then just walk one block over to to get your botanical skin and body care or ingredients for DIYing it yourself:)⠀
⠀
( just opened up 2 weeks ago, so Google Maps doesn't know about it. 201 Dundas St. W, but shop faces Byron St. I'll be there from 1-6!)⠀

3 glorious days of skipping the mirror, comb and selfie. My only skincare was SPF, then rinsing in the lake.

Did I want a shower first thing when I got home? Yep. But sometimes JOMO (joy of missing out) applies to more than social media!

Have you had some time this summer to just be totally wild and grunge? Do tell! 🔽

(P.s. washing hands and mask-wearing indoors remained. I was un-groomed, but not irresponsible! ) @ Long Point Provincial Park

Truth 1: I purposely posted a pic with my smiley eyes for this because it’s the part of my face that drives me crazy. I wish I loved my age and smile lines more.

Truth 2: I tapped on the hashtag to see other photos, and it kinda seemed vanilla. In this vibe, I’d like to amplify a few amazing who are friends and women I’ve interviewed recently for their expertise and inspiration. ❤️

Thanks for the invite, and for the reminder that invites aren’t necessary. Just put your face out there!
