10 years with Planet 27 I’ve made all the music I ever wanted to make with loud guitars and drums in the oldschool style of metal. I even recorded a live album to showcase how great my band was, and even switched up my recording methods to make my loudest and proudest album yet, Sentinel Rising.

Now, I’ve decided to try making another album but this time under my name and thus, A2B was made; the guitars were done in 3 hours, then the bass in 1 hour, on the same day. I then recorded the drums the next day and a few days after I did the vocals and got Jeff Stirling to rip some solos for the first two songs (I’m also playing drums in Jeff’s band NOZMA; they’re sick so give him a follow). This is a speed run album made with fresh new riffs, kick ass guitar solos, and even a Planet 27 jam at the end of the album with the prototype lineup with Adam W. on bass and Jeff on drums.

This is technically my 9th album, the first to have my Donner guitar in action alongside my SG, and also the first one to feature another guitarist playing with me. The other 2 albums are Rocker 4 Life Live which was a science experiment I recorded myself during the pandemic and Just Covers Vol. 1, both exclusively are on the Planet 27 YouTube channel; every other album is on Spotify.

I wanted to make something loud and heavy, but this time focusing on newer guitar sounds, and being as spontaneous as possible. I’m really enjoying the creativity flow on this project and I hope to keep it going.

My newest album Sentinel Rising was recorded with raw drum sounds from my Roland e-kit module; no MIDI, no reverb, no mixing. Only the unedited audio from the preset kits I made on the brain; I only adjusted the volume and mastered the songs in GarageBand (drums were recorded in mono too btw!)

If you can still record and play acoustic drums that’s still amazing because it’s become very difficult in today’s age. However if you’ve got your hands on an E-kit, you’ve got unlimited power in your hands. The amount of options for any type of percussion sound you want no matter the type, is truly exceptional and the sounds have just gotten better over the past decade; in the studio you can produce yourself any way you like and with MIDI, plus good drum samples, you could sound like a professional on any budget. It is a learning curve to integrate electric drums into a live setting but can be done successfully as more younger people are using them and there’s untapped potential to the decades of drumming ahead.

Drums are a very weird instrument and I’ve constantly learned about them and how they can be used. Whether it’s my new electric kit or my beautiful acoustic drums that I’ve owned, percussion is an incredible way to communicate through music 🥁
