The way we listen to music has evolved rapidly. Once upon a time owning a physical CD was something to brag about. Today most people have access to millions of songs by subscribing to a service like Apple Music or Spotify.
Change is Inevitable. Yet many people refuse to adapt to the times. We stay stuck in the past, we refuse to acquire new skills or knowledge, while the world continues to go on.
Pivot to Tech was designed to show people how they can adapt to current trends as technology continues to move faster than we can catch up. By acquiring tech skills you position yourself for economic empowerment and this is accessible to anyone.

Don't short-sell yourself by thinking you can't have a career in tech due to your lack of experience. You could be missing out on a ton of opportunities and leaving lots of dollars đľ on the table!
Here are some of the ways you can build your experience:
1. Start working on side projects. They don't have to be complex. The main objective is to learn through hands-on experience which will be invaluable as you progress in your career.
2. Document whatever you're learning. Create a blog or website where you outline your experiences creating side projects.
3. Share on social media platforms like LinkedIn where recruiters searching for talent can view your progress.

There's no denial that COVID-19 has affected a lot of people during this pandemic. Hiring has slowed down, companies are extra picky when it comes to selecting candidates, and fewer jobs are getting listed. However, people are still getting hired in this pandemic and some are even getting promoted. This applies to the tech industry also. Here are some key steps to ensure you stand out from the competition and get hired in this season:
1. Have a solid resume that clearly outlines your skills and experiences. Itâs important not to short sell yourself, go into much detail as you can about your work experience to make you stand out from the competition.
2. Network with as many recruiters as possible. LinkedIn is a great social platform for this and has features that can signal to recruiters (even outside your network) that youâre actively searching for a job
3. Read job descriptions and focus on the skills that are requested more often. For instance if in your search for front end developer React pops up more often thatâs a key indicator of skill or tool you should acquire.
4. A lot of tech companies are hiring remotely in this season. Zoom interviews have become a norm. Ensure that the necessary equipment works such as microphone, laptops and internet connection. Also make sure that youâre in a room thatâs properly lit so the interviewers can see you properly.
5. Try not to be too picky with roles youâre applying for. You may or may not get your dream role in this season so itâs important to be open-minded with opportunities that may not be conventional but could present growth prospects down the line in your career.
