I was reading about the highly acclaimed Apple series, The Studio with Seth Rogen. He talks about the thinking behind "the oner" approach to shooting the series. First of all, you may already know a "oner" is when you shoot the entire production in one continuous take using one lens. Rogen and his cinematographer, Adam Newport-Berra decided it was apropos to shoot a series about Hollywood as a frantic oner to capture the pace and insanity of producing in a high pressure environment. It was an homage to the 1992 film The Player where Robert Altman shot the first 8 minutes all in a single take. They experimented with different size lens and decided to go with the 21 mm. It allowed them to cover off shooting in a natural way. Rogen mentions this lens allowed them to do all different types of framing including the legendary "cowboy shot" by simply placing the subject matter at different distances from the camera.
