In the book What Color is My World, co-authored by NBA star Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, we learn about the great African-American minds behind important inventions, product enhancements, and scientific breakthroughs from the ice-cream scoop to cortisone cream and open-heart surgery.

As the new year rolls in and you scroll your instagram feed filled with the highlight reels of everyone’s lives this last year, it is important to remember to be kind to yourself.

The new year is often a time that we set goals around diet, fitness, skill-building, etc. but it is also a good opportunity to set goals around how we talk to ourselves and how we will prioritize our mental well-being in the year to come.

Children learn by watching what we do. When we are brave, when we are kind to others, when we are kind to ourselves, we teach the children in our care to do those things as well. We hope you all have a Happy New Year and that you reflect on this past year and plan for the next through a lens of self-compassion. 💛

There are so many lessons we can learn when we look at the world through the eyes of a child; how to find joy in simple things, how to live in the present, and how to lead with curiosity and excitement for adventure are some of our favourite 💛

Looking for a fun, easy activity at home with minimal supplies? Try a colour scavenger hunt!

Supplies needed
– white paper lunch bag
– markers (or crayons/pencil crayons)
⁣
Directions
1. Write “Color Scavenger Hunt” at the top of your white paper lunch bag.
⁣
2. Choose the colors you want the children to hunt for and use your colored markers to scribble small squares onto the front of the bag of each color.
⁣
3. Pass out the bags to the children and let them have fun finding all of the colors on the bag. When they find an item that matches one of the colors, place it in the bag. When everyone is finished, sit in a circle and have a fun time having a show and tell about all of the items everyone found!

Happy Father’s Day 💛

Do you practice mindfulness meditation? Do your kids? In times of uncertainty and stress, slowing down and taking a moment to pause and focus on being present is so important. Something I learned recently is that has meditation sessions for kids! If you look up Headspace for Kids you will find some quick sessions to do with the little ones, including one hosted by Barbie herself! @ Toronto, Ontario
