In 1908 one train ran from Damascus toward Medina with no border to cross. Then the empire was carved up and the line was cut into pieces. In 2026 it takes six governments, years of treaties, and feasibility studies to rebuild what one train once crossed freely. That difference is the whole cost of partition, written in railway track.
