Nighttime lenses. Daytime freedom with Ortho K!

Ortho-K lenses are specially designed contact lenses worn overnight while sleeping. They gently reshape the cornea so patients can wake up with clear vision during the day, without glasses or daytime contact lenses.

At DeSouza Optometry, we are excited to introduce several new advanced technologies to help provide more precise and comprehensive eye care.

Our new OCT technology allows us to detect and monitor eye conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, and retinal changes earlier and with greater accuracy. We also use OCT imaging to help achieve highly precise scleral lens fittings for patients with irregular corneas, keratoconus, and severe dry eye.

We have also added advanced corneal topography for Ortho-K and RGP lens fittings, along with improved detection and monitoring of complex corneal conditions.

For myopia control, our new axial length measurement technology allows us to closely track eye growth and monitor progression in children undergoing myopia management treatment.

In addition, our new dry eye analyzer evaluates Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD), gland structure, and Tear Break-Up Time (TBUT) to better diagnose and personalize dry eye treatment plans.

At DeSouza Optometry, we are committed to bringing the latest eye care technology to our community to improve patient care, comfort, and long-term eye health.

Your tears aren't just water.

They're a 3-layer shield protecting your eyes. When the oil layer from your meibomian glands stop doing their job, that shield breaks down fast. If your eyes feel dry, gritty, or tired, it's time to find out why. 👁️

Book a dry eye assessment with DeSouza Optometry and let’s find a treatment plan that addresses the root cause of your dry eye.

Four Reasons Why Your Dry Eyes Might Be Getting Worse

Dry eye isn’t just about not having enough tears. There are several common reasons symptoms can worsen over time:

1. Screen Time – Staring at computers, phones, or tablets reduces how often you blink, which dries out your eyes and prevents them from getting the lubrication they need.

2. Environment – Air conditioning, heating, wind, and low humidity can all strip moisture from your eyes, making dryness worse.

3. Overusing Contact Lenses – Wearing lenses too long or not following proper protocal can irritate your eyes and contribute to chronic dryness and increase the risk of infection.

4. Treating Symptoms, Not the Cause – Using drops or artificial tears can feel good temporarily, but if the underlying issue isn’t addressed (like inflammation or poor oil gland function) the dryness will keep coming back.

Dry eye is a chronic condition, and understanding what’s really causing it is the key to lasting relief. That’s why getting your eyes checked to identify the root cause is so important. Let’s build a treatment plan that works for you.

Myopia Control in North York | DeSouza Optometry

Myopia (nearsightedness) is increasing in children, and fast progression raises the lifetime risk of retinal detachment, glaucoma, and myopic maculopathy. At DeSouza Optometry in North York, we provide proven myopia control treatments to help slow this progression and protect long-term eye health.

Orthokeratology (Ortho-K):
Overnight lenses that reshape the cornea while your child sleeps, giving clear vision all day without glasses. Ortho-K is highly effective for active kids and offers strong myopia-control benefits.

Stellest Lenses:
Daily-wear glasses with advanced H.A.L.T. technology, clinically shown to slow myopia progression when worn consistently. A great option for younger children or those not ready for contact lenses.

MiSight® 1 day:
Soft daily disposable contact lenses specifically designed for myopia control. Comfortable, easy to use, and supported by long-term research showing significant reduction in myopia progression.

Low-Dose Atropine:
Nightly eye drops that slow the eye-growth process responsible for worsening myopia. Often combined with Ortho-K, Stellest, or MiSight for enhanced results.

Every child’s eyes are unique. We create personalized treatment plans and monitor progress throughout the year.

Serving families in North York, Toronto, Richmond Hill, Markham and surrounding areas.
