Canada has launched its boldest immigration plan in modern history in the midst of the second wave of COVID-19, increasing the number of newcomers it will bring into this country at record levels in a bid to stimulate the post-pandemic economic recovery.
According to the plan, Canada will welcome more than 1.2 million new immigrants over the next three years, with an annual intake that would reach 401,000 in 2021; 411,000 in 2022; and 421,000 in 2023 — equivalent to one percent of the population.

Last week, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) held its first all-program Express Entry draw since the start of the coronavirus pandemic. The pandemic has created unpredictability around the world throughout 2020 and as such, no one knows what the near future has in store.
However, IRCC continues to do its best to provide immigrant candidates with peace of mind. Last week’s draw is evidence that IRCC will return to treating Express Entry candidates equally regardless of where they are currently located in the world.

Canada’s Express Entry draws are seeing a downward trend in score requirements for Canadian Experience Class (CEC)-specific draws, as the May 15 draw had the lowest points cut off for this cohort since January 2019.
The new Express Entry round issued 3,371 invitations to CEC candidates with Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) scores of 447 or higher.

The Invitations to Apply, or ITAs, were issued to Express Entry candidates under the Canadian Experience Class (CEC). The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score for these candidates was 452.
This is the lowest CRS requirement so far in 2020, three points under the April 16 CEC draw that had a minimum CRS cut off of 455.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau today announced a ban on some 1,500 makes and models of military-grade "assault-style" weapons in Canada, effective immediately.
Starting today, licensed gun owners will no longer be allowed to sell, transport, import or use these sorts of weapons in this country.
