☕️ Morning Coffee Thoughts
I saw a dad on Instagram prepping iron-rich foods for his daughter to help offset the drop during her cycle. Warm water bottles every night for cramps and sleep. Men in other cultures are more attuned to women's care than many of us were ever taught to be.
Ancient Egyptian men took time off work when their wives were menstruating. Other cultures built space around the natural rhythm of a woman's body and mind — cyclical rest, real nourishment, intentional recovery. I imagine women in those cultures had more of a voice. And because they had a voice, their actual experience was honored.
For most of us — and our mothers, and their mothers before them — the message was quieter and far less kind: grin and bear it. You'll feel sick, exhausted, emotional, and untethered. But life goes on. Keep moving. And if the frustration boils over? Eye rolls. Must be that time of month. Pity at best.
For something you cannot control — embedded in a system that never stopped to ask how to actually support you through it. Just mask the symptoms and encourage girls to act like nothing is happening.
TCM has extensive protocols built around the female cycle. Deep, specific, passed-down knowledge. I have no doubt every culture once had this. Ours lost it, or it got pushed out. And now here I am at 40, finally learning how to work with my body — and having to explain my own reality to my husband from scratch.
40 is freeing. You run out of f***s to give, and that's its own kind of power.
But what about the young girls who give all the f***s? For whom this is brand new and overwhelming and met with silence?
I blame no one. No one was taught differently. You can't offer what you were never given.
I just think it could be better. And I'm genuinely grateful for social media's ability to connect women across cultures — because some of ours have lost the thread on women's health entirely.
The biology that makes life possible is the system we've left to fend for itself.
We've poured billions into synthetic systems that generate profit.
The ones that generate people? That's a you problem.

This morning while I was prepping for the upcoming market my youngest son asked.
"So you started this buisness to make more money?"
I didnt want to lie, so I was just insanley honest.
"Well, I dont think I will make a lot of money here. I spent a lot of money getting all these clothes from Hawaii to Saskatoon. I had to buy racking, a market tent, change tent, & supplies. Its going to be a long time before I make that money back, & only after that is a business really making money...
The truth is when I got started, I was never about oh this will make a bunch of money. Sometimes we are just called to do something because we think it is the right thing to do."
There it was, the cold hard truth out there. It was the second time I'd ever said it out loud out of fear of judgement.
A sane business savvy adult, actually almost anyone would have said...
"Well, then what the heck are you doing all this for"
But not my sweet son who gets it, who gets me, & at the ripe age of 6.
"Oh mom, dont worry, what goes around always comes back around"
How does a 6 year old get it, without any real explanation.
I cant help but feel kids have the best deepest knowing; that in life what we put our hearts and souls into, where we spend our time, well sometimes it is about more then just money.
For me, this project started because women (complete strangers) in Sask would come up to me wanting a beautiful skirt from Hawaii.
The skirt always made me feel amazing when I wore it. I wanted other women to feel amazing too.
How they are made aligns with my values and world view (that of a 90 man...)
- built to last, something you can have forever
- out of materials & dyes from the earth and in a councious way that has minimal impact on our planet
- where the designer & artists are rewarded fairly for their talent & art
And I chose to not come anywhere near the 200% markup standard in clothing. Not even half.
If I really think this the right way for people & the plant... it has to be affordable. And its one way I can help change things in my area of impact.
So no, its not about makin money...
Only in Saskatchewan 😆💀
