Rankin Inlet Fire Rescue EMS

Rankin Inlet Fire Department has started our Spring / Summer Recruit Drive. We are looking for 8-10 men and women to join our department as part time, paid-on call members.
RIFD is a busy volunteer (Paid-on-call) department. We respond to an average of 900+ calls a year, including emergency medical calls and medevac transports, structure fires, rescues, alarms, hazmat incidents, and any other calls for assistance.
Paid-on-call members are compensated for every hour that they spend responding to emergencies, attending training sessions, being on call for ambulance shifts and participating in other approved activities.
Members also can qualify for a $6,000 Volunteer Firefighter Tax Credit based on a minimum 200 volunteer (POC) hours.
No prior training or certifications are required to apply as RIFD will provide any necessary training in house and through the Nunavut Fire Marshal’s Office. A Class 5 driver’s license and current first aid certification would be assets but are not essential to the hiring process.
The biggest thing we are looking for is attitude. We want people with a good, positive attitude who are willing to learn, want to help the community and can work well as a member of our team. RIFD members come from all walks of life and range in age from 18 to 60s. If you think you can’t do this, you just might surprise yourself.
Paid-on-call members are not required to resign from their regular full-time jobs to join our team. The scheduled expectations of these positions are like that of a part time job.
Scheduled training sessions take place every Thursday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. We will also be running an in-depth recruit training program over 2 weekends later this spring.
Interviews and physical testing will take place during the first two weeks of May, and training will begin once the hiring process is complete.

The annual RIFD Community Easter Egg Hunt will take place on Saturday, April; 4th starting at Noon at the firehall.

RIFD once again produced the New Years Fireworks on Williamson Lake in Rankin Inlet.
Each year we run a fireworks photo contest. Congratulations to the talented winners of the 2026 RIFD Fireworks Photo Contest: Faith Voisey taking 1st place with 122 likes, Ivano Innukshuk and Aulajaat Manilak securing 2nd place with 111 likes, and Kaneena Tugak earning 3rd place with 69 likes. Winners can collect their cheques on Monday afternoon at the firehall. A huge thank you to everyone who shared their incredible photos, showcasing the beauty of our community. Wishing you all a Happy New Year!

RIFD hosted our annual Emergency Services Christmas Party on Saturday night. We throw this party annually for the fire department, RCMP and ER nurses and doctors, who we are pleased to work with on an almost daily basis throughout the year. We also present our annual fire department awards at the event. This year’s award recipients include:

Congratulations to all of the award winners, and a huge thanks to all of the members at RIFD. We have just surpassed 800 calls for service in 2025 and the year is not over. That is a very busy department with 14 paid-on-call volunteers and 2 career chief officers.
