I am always asked if I do stationery with photos:save the date, invites, thank you cards, baptism-you name it. Why are they asking? Because you don’t see a lot of faces on my website.
Here’s why: unless you have the ok from your photographer-I won’t use images. Unless I have permission from my client or photographer. Photographers have struggled for years as to who owns the images. I respect that.

There are so many levels and details when it comes to photos of people. I used to work in high tech and the company owned one of the biggest image libraries. Sometimes we did our own photo shoots. Every. Single. Image. Went through at least 3 lawyers for approval. There were model agreements. Clothing labels couldn’t be shown. Why? Unless you had commercial agreements in place, contracts signed. Then there’s privacy laws. And every country is different. But when it comes to faces-a company did not have the right to use your face in their marketing without a contract. Then images started showing up around the world with images that companies found online.

I have watched for decades as copyright and privacy laws in Canada and internationally have changed drastically over time. And now we live in a world of AI and new laws are being written.
And it isn’t just images. Its designs, literature and music. Ask any DJ or musician about SOCAN.

In short-I respect YOUR privacy. I respect copyright of others works, images and music.
Not gonna lie-it’s tricky. I once got a cease and desist letter because I used the word Polaroid. 😣

Just because you bought a template or created something on one of those platforms doesn’t mean you have the right to give it to a commercial business.
