What should kids learn first: uppercase or lowercase letters?

Uppercase letters are easier to learn and write so it's best to tackle them first. Capital letters are:
🌼 easier for kids to recognize and read
🌼 start at the top and end at the bottom of tracing lines
🌼 minimal line overlapping
🌼 mostly made of straight lines and circles

Lowercase letters are smaller and have more curves and overlapping lines.

Proper letter formation, spacing, and sizing are important for handwriting legibility but can be difficult for your child to master. We make it simple with easy-to-follow instructions, traceable font and ghost lettering in our Handwriting Activity Workbook. Also featuring a wide variety of games keep kids engaged and learning for hours!

How many of us were taught to strive for perfection growing up?

When we set the goal of perfection, our children can feel discouraged by their inevitable failure to achieve that standard. It’s better to encourage them to try their best and learn something new every step of the way! 🌼 It’s not about being perfect, it’s about taking a step forward every day and finding joy in the journey 🌼

Is your child struggling to grasp their pencil properly?

🌼 A good pencil grip allows your child to use their fingers to move the pencil instead of their wrist/whole hand/arm. Knowing how a pencil correctly will:
1. Increase the legibility of their writing
2. Enable them to write comfortably for longer
3. Improve their attitude towards writing and learning

🌼 Gross motor activities like crawling, jumping, and throwing a ball will help children develop stronger shoulder and arm muscles. As these muscles grow, kids will have more control over their fine motor skills and transition through these stages of pencil grasp
1. Cylindrical Grasp
2. Digital Grasp
3. Modified Tripod Grasp
4. Tripod Grasp

🌼 When your child is ready, help them transition through these stages of pencil grasp. Remember that every child learns differently, so go at a comfortable pace and don't push too hard.

Comment below what pencil grasp stage is your child at?
