Can I encourage you with something today?

You know that thing you've been putting off? The conversation you need to have. The boundary you need to set. The application you need to submit. The phone call you've been avoiding.

Maybe you've been waiting until you feel more confident.
But what if confidence doesn't come first?

I was thinking about this recently. There are so many things I don't feel confident doing. But I've started to wonder if confidence isn't what happens before the step—maybe it's what happens after.

When God told Joshua, "Be strong and courageous," He didn't say, "Wait until you feel brave enough."

Sometimes you just take the step. You do the hard thing. You trust God with what's next.

Knox College extends its condolences and deepest sympathies to the family of Lloyd Robertson, one of Canada’s most respected journalists and a member of the Order of Canada, who passed away yesterday at the age of 92.

A lifelong Presbyterian, Mr. Robertson received an honorary Doctor of Divinity from Knox College, conferred in absentia at its 2026 Convocation Ceremony, in recognition of his contributions to both church and society.

In one of his final public interviews, Mr. Robertson spoke with Knox alumnus Dr. Robert Revington at the 2025 meeting of the Canadian Society of Presbyterian History. Reflecting on his youth, he described how he wrestled with whether he was called to be a minister or a journalist. He later recalled with gratitude the opportunity to write a column for the Presbyterian Record, a forum that afforded him the opportunity to address matters of faith and public life. He also spoke of how the Christian principles he learned in church guided and grounded him in a career that often took him far from home.

Throughout his life, Lloyd Robertson demonstrated that service to God can take many forms and that integrity, excellence, and faithfulness in the public square are themselves a Christian vocation. Knox College is grateful for his life, his contributions to Canadian society, and his faithful witness as a member of the body of Christ.
