News Release | IHIT deployed to Maple Ridge following fatal altercation
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has deployed to Maple Ridge following an altercation that left one man dead.
On May 30, 2026, at approximately 6:51 p.m., Maple Ridge RCMP responded to a fight in progress in the 22300 block of River Road, Maple Ridge. Upon arrival, police located a 28-year-old man with life-threatening injuries. Despite life-saving efforts by first responders, the man died at scene.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) deployed and assumed conduct of the investigation.
IHIT continues to work in close partnership with the Maple Ridge RCMP Serious Crime Unit, the Integrated Forensic Identification Services (IFIS) and the BC Coroners Service to advance the investigation.
Investigators believe this was an isolated and targeted incident, where the parties involved were known to each other. The investigation is ongoing; however, the incident is not believed to be related to gang activity.
“Thanks to the quick actions taken by Maple Ridge RCMP officers, the scene was contained quickly which allowed investigators to preserve critical evidence,” says Sgt. Freda Fong of IHIT. “A number of witness interviews are underway as investigators piece together the events leading up to the altercation. Our thoughts are with the victim’s family during this very difficult time.”
Anyone with further information regarding this investigation is asked to contact IHIT at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or email [email protected].

This past weekend was another steady one in Maple Ridge with our Frontline officers responding to over 220 calls for service.
A busy Friday dayshift, including a weapons call, kept officers busy throughout the day and continued with several domestic incidents, drug and mental-health related calls, and property crime files well into the evening. Officers also stopped a driver who nearly caused a serious collision in the Kanaka Creek area and served them with a 3-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition, violation ticket, and vehicle impound for 7 days.
On Saturday officers responded to a nuisance complaint from the public which lead to the arrest of an individual with five unendorsed warrants including Breach of Undertaking, Theft Under $5,000, Assault, and Fail to Comply with Probation. The individual was taken into cells and held for court. Multiple officers also attended and participated in Cst. Rick O’Brien’s Joint Forces Jamboree festivities.
On Saturday night officers were kept busy with a call about a mentally disturbed individual with a weapon, which eventually led to de-escalation techniques by officers and an apprehension under the Mental Health Act and transportation to hospital for the individual’s own safety. Officers also initiated an impaired driving investigation after a vehicle had flipped over and the driver was located attempting to flee the scene. Officers also responded to reports of a group of young e-motorcycle riders operating their vehicles dangerously and illegally in the Silver Valley area.
Sunday saw officers respond to an assault with a weapon file involving uncooperative parties, and a separate assault file involving family members, a dog, and a screwdriver which ended in minor injuries and a trip to cells for one family member. Officers also responded to a report of a missing child who thankfully, with officers’ assistance, was located asleep in the back of the family vehicle. To round out the weekend, officers also responded to an unconfirmed shots fired call, multiple check well-being files, and issued a issued several speeding tickets during proactive enforcement.
