Today, May 5 is the National Day of awareness and remembrance for the Missing & Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and 2SLGBTQI+ people (MMIWG2S), also known as Red Dress Day.

To raise awareness and pay tribute on this day, wear red, and inform yourself about MMIWG2S.

On May 5, we observe Red Dress Day, a time to honour and remember missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQIA+ people.

This day, inspired by Métis artist Jaime Black’s REDress Project, is a powerful reminder of the need for collective action. Indigenous women and girls make up less than 5% of Canada’s population but represent 24% of all female homicide victims – a stark and alarming disproportion.

Together, let’s raise awareness and advocate for justice to work towards ending this ongoing crisis.
