Windsor Regional Cancer Centre offering scalp-cooling service
The Windsor Regional Cancer Centre is offering a new scalp-cooling service for cancer patients who are undergoing chemotherapy.
The Paxman Scalp Cooling System (PSCS) also known as ‘cold cap’ became available onsite for patients to book in August, in an effort to help reduce hair loss during chemotherapy.

The Saint John Regional hospital is home to Atlantic Canada's first Paxman machines, a technology that cools and freezes the hair follicles when placed on the head during chemotherapy to prevent hair loss
We are so close to changing "your going to lose your hair" when faced with chemotherapy. Losing hair while undergoing chemotherapy, will no longer be the statement. The question will be, "do you want scalp cooling as part of your treatment?"....Paxman cooling machines are already implemented in Toronto hospitals, London needs to allow them in. Please let our LHFC know how you would like to see this vision become reality in 2024.
It won't be long now Paxman cooing machines will become part of treatment helping patients keep their hair

When Camilla, a patient from Sweden, was diagnosed with breast cancer, she told her oncologist that she was terrified to lose her hair. She was not told about scalp cooling.
After her first treatment of EC, she found out about the Paxman Scalp Cooling System and was devastated she hadn’t been told about this sooner.
Camilla spent three weeks trying to find another hospital, she then changed hospitals and was offered scalp cooling. Camilla was able to protect her hair follicles during her next treatments and promote stronger, healthier and faster hair regrowth.
"With Paxman, I regained control and my self-esteem! I felt like a person again, not just a patient. Patient’s needs have to be taken more seriously as it can greatly affect both recovery and well-being."

När Camilla, en patient från Sverige, fick diagnosen bröstcancer berättade hon för sin onkolog att hon var livrädd att tappa håret. Hon fick då inte veta om hårbottenkylning.
Efter sin första behandling av EC fick hon reda på Paxman Scalp Cooling System och var förkrossad över att hon inte hade fått veta detta tidigare.
Tre veckors försök att hitta ett annat sjukhus som skulle erbjuda henne hårbottenkylning gav resultat. Hon erbjöds tillslut kylmössa på ett annat sjukhus.
Camilla kunde skydda sina hårsäckar under sina nästkommande behandlingar och främja starkare, friskare och snabbare håråterväxt.
"Med Paxman fick jag tillbaka kontrollen och min självkänsla! Jag kände mig som en människa igen, inte bara en patient.
Patientens behov måste tas på större allvar eftersom det i hög grad kan påverka både återhämtning och välbefinnande.
Now that everyone is educated on scalp cooling It is important to Lobby the government and the hospitals to implement paxman cooling machines. Toronto hospital have them available and London deserves better. These machines are standard with treatment in so many countries. Women and men deserve better.
