Tansi all. I’m currently working on restocking my dyed fish scales on my website, slowly but surely. The washing alone took a good amount of time.
Sometimes when I post reels I get new viewers, so this is for you! I’m Maria! 👋 fish scale art is something my mom taught me. It’s almost 6 months to the date that she passed, and I told her I would keep making and sharing my art, so here I am. 🫶 I like to share the process because it’s a true labour of love.
The fish scales are used in various forms of artwork. I’m Cree originally from Northern AB (Canada) from treaty 8, and I’ve been residing here in treaty 7 for a while now.

Tansi folks! I am here to announce a very special fundraiser. This is the last piece of my mom’s completed beadwork. As I’m writing this, I remember her showing it to me and how proud she was. My sister Char is selling the last beautiful pieces that mom made, I will be posting her last completed regalia soon too. All funds go to her celebration of life and ceremonial commitments she had made that the family is keeping in her honour 🕊️

I’m riding the waves of grief as they come 😮💨 good, bad, happy, shocked, disassociated, lacking motivation, perfectly fine- all those kinds of days and moments. It’s been about 2.5 months since momma passed and tbh, many of those days drag on. Unfortunately the first thing that takes a hit is my business, which I’m okay with because that extra time that I usually work to grow my business has now become my dedicated rest and self care time. For now I am only beading and creating when the creativity and motivation strikes. I have a few things in the work as well. Thank you for following along on the journey and sticking around 🫶
