REMINDER: You don’t have to get it right in a lesson. I know that sounds crazy, so I'll say it again: you do NOT have to get it right in your lesson.

A lesson where you try to do everything perfectly? That's just a horse show. A lesson where you try, struggle, and learn something new? That's where the progress comes from.

So I know it's hard, but I want you to try and let go of The Perfect Lesson and embrace The Learning Lesson.

Let people ride your horse.

If we’ve done our job correctly, most horses should be able to be ridden by a lot of different people.

I have people get nervous about getting on my bridle horse because they’re worried they’re going to “wreck her.”

Nobody is going to wreck my bridle horse in 20 minutes.

That doesn’t mean I believe in giving your horse to every idiot who walks through the gate.

It means that in a controlled environment, sometimes you need to let people get on and learn.

Let them make a mistake.

Let them feel what a good horse feels like.

Let them experience something they’ve never experienced before.

Because somebody did that for you.

At some point, you were the person who didn’t know what you were doing.

Somebody had to put you on a horse and give you the opportunity to get better.

We all started out as somebody who just loved horses.

Don’t get so good at riding horses that you forget what it felt like to be the person who was just learning.

Sometimes the best thing you can do for the future of our industry is let somebody else get on your horse.

If they can’t walk and steer, they can’t trot and steer.
If they can’t balance at the trot, they aren’t ready to canter.
If they can’t go catch their own horse, groom it, tack it up and take responsibility for it, how are they supposed to lead that horse from the saddle?

Going faster does not equal getting better. Strapping your kid to a horse and sending them into the arena isn’t making them better, it’s setting them up to get hurt.

You might think watching your kid walk circles isn’t exciting. You might think they should be cantering, jumping “doing more.”

But sometimes they’re simply not ready.

And respectfully — that’s why you hired an instructor. Because knowing how and when to progress a rider is our job.

We aren’t holding your kid back. We’re building the foundation that keeps them safe and makes them GOOD.

My pony’s are fairly priced because this is where they get to ❤️ able to go around the ring… or step down to giving back confidence to a very nervous little around cantering after she had a tumble on her pony several months ago. She loves walk trot, but because of her unplanned tumble when out with mum and then an oopsy one worrying about canter, we needed to get the groove because accidental canters do and will happen! So added support was needed and ended all smiles! 🥰🥰 Love our Caspian Horse.
