Our latest blog is a behind-the-scenes story about a creative shoot that wasn’t quite working… until we changed direction completely.
What started as one idea became something entirely different, and the images we almost didn’t take ended up becoming some of our favourites.
Photography isn’t always about sticking to the plan. Sometimes it’s about recognising when a better idea is waiting just a few feet away.
If you’ve ever wondered what really happens behind the camera during a creative session, we think you’ll enjoy this one.

Christmas in July... what an experience! 🎄☀️
When we first announced Christmas sessions in the middle of summer, we knew it would be a little unusual.
We didn't expect to hear "Merry Christmas!" while it was over 30°C outside, or see Christmas sweaters paired with flip-flops—but somehow it worked perfectly.
Over the past two weeks, we photographed babies, couples, families, corporate teams, pets, large extended families and three generations together. Every session brought something different, and every family reminded us why we love what we do.
One thing that meant so much to us was seeing how relaxed the dogs were. Because every session was completely private, there were no other pets or people waiting. Owners repeatedly told us how much easier it was, and it made the photos feel even more complete with every member of the family included.
We also heard the same thing again and again:
"We're so glad our Christmas cards are finally sorted."
Knowing our clients can head into the holidays with one less thing to worry about made this event even more worthwhile.
If you'd like a behind-the-scenes look at our very first Christmas in July, we've shared the full story on our blog.
📖 Read it here: https://www.notnormalphotography.com/blog/christmas-photos-early-langley/
🎄 Christmas sessions will return this November, and subscribers to our emails will receive early booking access and a special link to lock in our July pricing before the seasonal rates begin.

Some photographs take about 15 minutes to capture.
This one took 14 hours to create.
For this creative portrait, Hayley imagined a disco cowboy-inspired set with a backdrop made entirely from CDs.
So we built it.
Fourteen hours of gluing, taping and connecting hundreds of CDs together.
The photoshoot lasted about fifteen minutes.
The next morning we walked into the studio to find most of the backdrop collapsed in an accordion-like heap across the floor.
I stared at it in disbelief and said,
“Fourteen hours that took.”
Hayley looked at the mess, smiled and replied,
“But I got the shot.”
She was right.
The set lasted about twenty hours.
The photograph will last forever.
So will the memories of creating it together.
If you’d like to read the whole behind-the-scenes story, we’ve just published it on our blog:
But I Got the Shot | Creative Portrait Photography Langley - Not Normal Photography Some photographs take minutes to capture. Others take days to create. Go behind the scenes of one creative portrait at Not Normal Photography in Langley.

How do you prepare for a professional photography session?
If your answer is “panic a little”… you’re definitely not alone. 😄
One of the first things we hear from new clients is:
“I’m terrible in front of the camera.”
The truth is, almost everyone feels that way.
In our newest blog, we share what really happens before a photography session, what to bring, what to expect when you arrive, and why you don’t need to know how to pose before walking through our studio door.
There’s even a story about reformer Pilates, a few lollipops, and why music is almost always playing in the studio.
If you’ve ever been nervous about having professional photographs taken, this one’s for you.
