Road trip tip: Be prepared to stop a small blaze from growing out of control with a car fire extinguisher. Look for one with a secure mounting bracket for safe travel.

Keep your A/C running right:
• Prune back shrubs at least two to three feet around your unit (Wait until the unit isn’t running before pruning and be careful not to damage the delicate aluminum fins on the outside of the unit).
• Pour a cup of bleach in the access opening in the drain line (located near the AC unit) every year to kill any algae, mold, or mildew in the pipe so water won’t backing up inside your unit.

With hot weather on the way, remember to replace the filter on your central cooling system so your unit will work efficiently.
A quality filter will also help reduce the amount of dust in your home and remove some of the pollutants from the air.

Never use old beverage containers (like gallon jugs or 2-liter soda bottles) to store dangerous chemicals because kids might mistake them for a tasty drink.

Hot weather means cold drinks! If you have a water dispenser in your fridge, you should change the filter at least every six months and defrost and clean your ice maker so that it doesn’t develop a frosty crust that will prevent it from working correctly.

Clothes dryers are one of main sources of home fires. Clean your lint filter after every use, and at least once a year, clean your drier’s vent pipe using a long-handled lint brush or vacuum cleaner with a small brush attachment.
