Giving long weekend vibes.
Tropicalia 🌴
📍Colonial Americano, , Mexico
Colonia Americana was awarded as the best neighborhood in 2022 + 2024, and its history dates back to the beginning of the 20th century. It is an emblematic neighborhood characterized by its Art Deco and modernist architecture - including some houses designed by the laureate architect Luis Barragán
and the majestic Parroquia El Expiatorio del Santísimo Sacramento, an impressive neo-Gothic church.
Tropicalia immediately caught my interest with the contrast of the neon pink, against the bright white facade with the cast of shadows from the mid day sun. The storefront was not opened at the time I took the photo as the owners were enjoying their afternoon "siesta" time. The siesta has deep cultural roots and serves an important purpose as to take a mid-day nap or break; to escape the hottest hours of the day and recharge for the afternoon.

Rikchariy (Awaken) 🔴
¡VIVA COLOR!
Peru as a country boasts a mix of cultures, climates, and architecture. What makes it an incredible place to visit is that modern Peru seamlessly blends its diverse history. Each culture and each historical period are still visible and alive throughout the country. Traveling through Peru, I noticed a recurring theme was not only the country’s architecture, but the way it was adapted to changing circumstances. Dwellings are now usually constructed with whitewashed adobe bricks; roofs are constructed with wood, straw, and hand-made clay tiles.
We found our way to the district of Barranco where I found the inspiration for RIKCHARIY (Awaken). Barranco was once Lima's pleasure and entertainment district for wealthier Limeños (during the colonial and republican times). At the beginning of the 20th century this district was home to famous Peruvian writers and artists which gave the district a unique character.
The daily life in Barranco is more relaxed and quieter than in the rest of Lima. The city center invites you to stroll around, visit old colonial and republican houses and enjoy the many other amazing sights that Barranco offers.
I am very pleased Rikchariy has found its way to a long time personal Collector, acquired for their corporate collection. 🙏

TROPICALIA 🌴
Backstory...
A quiet moment in one of Mexico’s most vibrant neighbourhoods.
Inspired by Colonia Americana in Guadalajara — where Art Deco meets modernism and every street feels alive with history — Tropicalia captures that pause in the day when the sun is at its peak and the city slows down.
This storefront, closed for a midday siesta, became the subject.
Neon pink against a bright white façade. Hard shadows cutting through the stillness.
There’s a tension here — between energy and rest, colour and silence.
This piece is about noticing those in-between moments… the ones you’d miss if you weren’t looking.
