Today’s Pack Walk! It's Little D, lil’ Lola, Miley, Trixie, Phil, Maya, and Batty.

Beautiful weather, so we went for a long one around downtown. Just past King and Queen, a friend gave me a heads-up about a “crazy dog” nearby, so we detoured up onto the Jackson Square roof.

On the way back, I made a point to avoid that area… but ironically, my detour led us straight into trouble.

We passed a bully mix. Not huge, but definitely not small. I had my eye on it as we walked by. It had a collar and leash, so I assumed the owner had ahold… wrong.

It lunged.

That’s when the adrenaline hit and things got a bit fuzzy. Thankfully, an old friend behind me later helped fill in the blanks.

As it came in, I gathered all the leashes and swung the dogs behind me, putting myself between it and my pack. At the same time, I shouted “NO!” as loud as I could.

And this part I remember clearly… the dog actually stopped. Dead. Like nothing had happened. Just looked up at me.

That’s when the owner finally came and grabbed it. What stuck with me most was the lack of accountability. Just excuses.

I moved us down the street, out of sight, and checked everyone over. Aside from some dirt from the garden bed we ended up in, all dogs were safe—just shaken.

I’m incredibly grateful for the temperament of this pack. No escalation. They trusted me to handle it.

Honestly, looking back… I don’t even think that “NO” came out as a command. It felt more like I was yelling at the sky—living out one of my worst-case scenarios.

Today's Second Pack Walk! It's Little D, Miley, Maya, Winston, Trixie, Phil and Hansen. Ol' Hansen the Golden can't hack the long walks so this one was just for him. Just a few laps over at Victoria Park.
