Hamilton CAPC provides supports and programs to families with children aged newborn to six in east Hamilton. We assist families in the areas of child health, parenting strategies, and community engagement. Programs and services are provided through partnerships with nine child and parent programs. Assistance is also available in Hamilton CAPC’s main office for referrals, information, and community support. The office is located in the Dominic Agostino Riverdale Community Centre at 150 Violet Drive. Hamilton CAPC is funded by the Public Health Agency of Canada and its sponsoring agency is the Social Planning and Research of Hamilton. Project direction is provided by the Hamilton CAPC Council comprised of individuals living within the east Hamilton catchment area. The Hamilton CAPC Council acts as a liaison to the community, identifies community needs, and develops strategies and recommendations that promote the project’s goals. The Hamilton CAPC catchment area is east Hamilton with the area boundaries of Lake Ontario (north), 50 Road (east), Mud Street (south) and Strathearne Road (west). CAPC Catchment Area Map

Our Priorities

Three priority areas have been identified for CAPC’s ongoing work. The areas are mental health promotion, injury prevention and healthy weights.

1. Mental Health Promotion:
Focuses within this priority area include social isolation, parent or child self-esteem, parent-child attachment, positive parenting, father involvement, parent leadership development and community participation.

2. Injury Prevention:
Focuses within this priority area include child safety and home, toy and play safety.

3. Healthy Weights:
Focuses within this priority area include food security assistance, collective food preparation and/or purchasing and nutrition education.
