The initial days of Good Grief Studio focused on developing fabrication standards from which the whole studio would be based. By instilling these fundamentals into my process, I developed the ability to solve problems more intuitively. One of the first projects to come from this period of learning was the creation of round canvas stretchers using a router and Milescraft CircleGuideKit. This particular painting is on one of those initial, hand-crafted supports, and is a piece of the studios history.
As focus shifts to painting in 2025, this exploratory aesthetic features five poppies falling slowly in tandem with two abstract shapes knows as Positive Gestures, one of which is sculptural in form and the 73rd hand-stretched shaped-canvas I have produced to date.

Monsteras in the Good Window
I’ve been working towards pulling off a work of such chaos one day. Until then, there’s a poster.

My first job as a 16yo was delivering flowers. I benefitted from it so much that I delivered flowers again in my late-20’s and I believe it lent me a unique lens in life. I know firsthand the amount of care and thought that comes with sending flowers. There were interesting moments for sure; apologetic partners come to mind, but often i found myself in a darkened hospital room alongside a stranger in their desperate moment of life… or setting up flowers at a funeral with no attendees. There were some sad moments. On the days that I worked, most routes took me to multiple funeral homes and hospitals. Being around so much grief definitely woke me up.
And with all of those heavy moments, the light ones seemed lighter. Smiles become important. This series of paintings - Okay Bouquet - is my way of delivering more flowers and smiles.
For this most-recently completed painting in the Okay Bouquet series, I took some time to experiment further with bolder pinks - especially bubblegum pink - inline with my own nostalgic palettes.

Trying out some new ideas.
I have been working on some translations of my work across a few different means of reproduction - in this case a thick poster print. Starting things off with a Series 08 Positive Gesture as an interactive subject matter. “All Together Now” is composed of three houseplants grouped together- each with their own significance to the studio. The Calathea orbifolia holds it down in the middle with paint-splattered leaves.
I made this available in nine color options across two different sizes - the largest being 24” x 36”!

The “exclamation mark” in this painting is designed to complement the painting in color, shape and absence.
Lastly, an added layer of excitement is revealed when you hang the Positive Gesture elsewhere in the room/space - turning one painting into two - and transforming this work into a casual art installation.
