Working with photos of my grandmothers sisters. I grew up looking at these photos of these women wondering what it was that they were thinking and how their lives turned out. I don’t know much about them other than what my imagination has given me together with my grandmothers stories. Feeling inspired and can’t wait to see what comes of these pieces.

Lisa Pijuan-Nomura is the Artistic Director of Studio Beulah. She lives and works in Hamilton as a storyteller, mixed media collage artist, and creativity coach. She is a 2022 Artist in Residence with The Luminato Festival and is currently working on a multidisciplinary show called Con/Sin Palabras- With/Without Words.

Nancy Benoy was born and raised in Port Credit, Ontario and now lives, creates and teaches art in Hamilton, Ontario.
A blank canvas is inspiration for Nancy. Colour, mark making and intuition drive her to compose in a spontaneous manner, allowing the paint, pastel, mark making tool to take over. Nancy wants to capture a moment in time, frozen, and ask the viewer to imagine that movement and feeling.

Hello. My name is Esais Lukasik-Foss and one of the many endeavours I dislike is writing about myself, and particularly about my art. One useful tactic I have developed over the years is to actually not write an artist statement. Instead I am going to tell whomever decides to read this about my burning passion for birds. The theme of this Studio Beulah project is “Sky Enchantment” and coincidentally one of my favorite things are birds. This is not just some small concern of mine; I actively draw birds, look for birds, read about birds, listen to birds, and take extreme joy in correctly identifying a bird when there are other bird enthusiasts around. So as one could correctly imagine I decided to illustrate a bird for this project. One of the concepts that I like to grapple with is that idea of mixing both mechanical and natural visual languages together and seeing what is produced. For this project I have done an illustration of a bird being smushed together with a circle. Esais can be found on Instagram at
