What are your student dynamics ?

We all appreciate our breaks from our students; on the other hand …

A LOT can be revealed by simply eating your lunch quietly at your desk while you observe the student dynamics in your class. If you let your students sit where they want during break, who socializes with who ? Does anyone sit alone ? What kind of comments are shared ? Who brings a snack/lunch and who doesn’t ? Are they proactive/responsible and help each other study for quizzes or organize their binders during their breaks ? Do they show kindness towards others ? etc.

There are several other benefits to eating in your room during breaks: reduces bullying opportunities, less mess is created in the classroom, your presence is viewed as a support system i.e, available to answer student questions that are too hesitant to do so in front of the whole class.
