LIBERATION; Q***R FUTURISM (December 2025)

This zine was delayed in production after our founder/producer Kade was hospitalized for an autoimmune disorder that compromises the brain in early December, three weeks after a gender affirming surgery. Our collective had to advocate and fight against the oppressive and hostile environment that Alberta’s UCP government has perpetuated within our medical system. One that harms q***r, trans and gender nonconforming lives; people of colour, women, fat bodies, the disabled and mentally ill.

Community is what keeps us alive! Velvet Prairie seeks to keep producing art that connects people and uplifts the voices of the marginalized. F**k fascism. Keep fighting. Digital view of this zine is available in our link tree. Copies will be available for sale at our future events!

For 12 years and two months, we have loved hosting you all in our little gay bar on the prairie. Every single one of you that’s come down the stairs to dance or cruise or cheer on an entertainer has helped enrich our lives. The joy we have found in fellowship together has been deep, and we look forward to many more years of it in our new space together.

SURPRISE! We’ve got another drag pop up for Goth Night! Mørtis X is YEG’s premier androgynous zombie cowboy parasite (whatever that means) and the current reigning Scream Ghoul. Through their drag they showcase elements inspired by alternative fashion and music, and a deep love for theatrical story-telling and movement. As a producer, they focus on high-production events with a horror edge. Intus Foris.

Catch them performing at midnight and 1 am at Goth Night THIS SATURDAY at EVO115! Then get over to EVO 103 Sunday night for Scream Royal hosted by Mørtis X!

On Monday we got to sit down with and .1 for interviews about their paths in and out of the gay bar scene as drag performers! Both shared with us a similar message for q***r youth; show up and represent yourself. No one else is going to do you better.
