The Day 80 Students Reminded Us Why There's Hope
High schoolers from St. Joseph and Jasper Place came together for an honest conversation about creating a better future for everyone.
As a board member of the Canadian Multicultural Education Foundation (CMEF), I helped host our second "Fireside Chat" - sponsored by the City of Edmonton.
80+ students (Grades 10-12) discussed Youth Voices, Youth Action—Shaping Goals, Inclusive Futures.
One student shared this powerful quote: "Nothing is new under the sun, but there are new suns." 🌞
Students shared wisdom:
Think before we speak Learn to forgive. Understand before responding. Take responsibility for what we say
Dr. Florence Glanfield (VP at UofA) reminded us about "sharing hands" - respecting each other and valuing everyone's contributions.
Spending the afternoon with these students was a powerful reminder that our future is in capable hands.

Today, I was honoured to stand with the Treaty 8 youths during our Life Skills session. They proudly created a powerful poster that reads: "Honour Our Land. Honour Our People. Treaty 8."
At EmpoweredMe: The Confidence School of Greatness, we're not just teaching skills — we're nurturing pride, purpose, and power in our youth. These young leaders are learning to own their voices and honour their roots.

Coming October 4, 2025!
The ME Project YEG – STEAM AHEAD is bridging the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) gap for girls and gender-diverse youth (15–18).
Women comprise only 25% of the STEAM workforce (Think Progress & Statistics Canada). It’s time to change that!
