Shakespeare Masterclass Intensive: Engaging Shakespeare in Chicago
The Engaged Actor is seeking Chicago actors interested in participating in their 3-day Masterclass Intensive: Engaging Shakespeare, scheduled for May 16th to 18th (9:30 am – 4:30 pm) at the Bramble Arts Loft in Andersonville. The workshop will be held over 3 full days, working with Geoffrey Brumlik, the former Head of the MFA Acting course at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School (UK), and Kate Siepert, the former Head of Professional Development and Admissions for the MFA Acting course at BOVTS.
The Engaging Shakespeare workshop will explore classical texts through a series of exercise progressions, taking the time to apply the results of the work to actual Shakespearean texts and allowing for a brief reflection on those experiences. These progressions will include exploring the live nature of Shakespeare, discovering the brilliant freedom within iambic pentameter, and dipping into the pleasures of fully embodied language. Much of the work in the intensive utilizes the framework of a larger lens to foster the actor’s own ongoing personal connection with classical texts. This workshop closely aligns with the type of training one would encounter in the MFA acting course at BOVTS, uniquely combining voice, text, and acting tools as a means to explore a fully activated, engaged, and human relationship with classical texts.
3-Day Chicago Workshop - Engaging Shakespeare:
Friday, May 16th – Sunday, May 18th, 2025
9:30 am – 4:30 pm
@ The Bramble Arts Loft (5545 N Clark St 2nd Floor, Chicago, IL 60640)
Cost: $375.00 USD + Processing Fees
They are accepting up to 18 people. Participants will be selected from those who apply based on their relevant experience or level of study. If you are interested, please submit your headshot and resume to [email protected].

Meet the team behind The Engaged Actor: Geoffrey Brumlik and Kate Siepert. Geoff and Kate began their collaboration at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School (BOVTS) in 2017, with Geoff as the Head of the MFA Professional Acting course, while Kate served as the Professional Development instructor for the MFA class.
After eight wonderful years working together—guiding their exceptional master’s students through an intense training process each year, elevating the MFA course, and conducting some of the most actor-friendly drama-school auditions—they decided to share their expertise more broadly. In 2023, they launched the Engaging Shakespeare masterclass workshop, which has now had several successful sessions in NYC and LA, with Chicago next on the list. In 2024, they transitioned away from BOVTS and founded The Engaged Actor to continue offering high-level professional coaching to actors worldwide, utilizing a respectful, individualized, and constructive approach.
