Yesterday, the Solemnity of St. Joseph, was our community's patronal feast day!

We were happy to welcome Archbishop Stephen as he celebrated Mass for us, and then joined us for dinner.

St. Joseph, pray for us!

We give thanks with the people of the Catholic Archdiocese of Edmonton for their new shepherd, Archbishop Stephen Hero.

Archbishop Hero was on the formation team here at St. Joseph's from 2005 until 2021, serving as rector for the last nine of those years. During this time, over 75 men were ordained to the priesthood. With two licentiates, one in Liturgical Theology and one in Spiritual Theology, his influence in the Church of Western Canada is widespread.

He was installed at St. Joseph's Basilica last Friday, and the seminarians from Edmonton, as well as Deacon Dale, were invited to serve at that Mass. May God bless your new ministry in Edmonton, Archbishop Hero!

We give thanks for our brother, Deacon Sedale Rosillo, who was ordained to the transitional diaconate just before Christmas at St. Joseph's Parish in Prince Albert, SK, by Bishop Stephen Hero.

Deacon Dale has one semester left in his studies, and we ask that you keep him in prayer throughout this term. May God bless you and your ministry, Deacon Dale!

These last few weeks have been filled with study sessions and frantic paper writing, but we were also blessed to celebrate the season together at our Advent party, with the propaedeutics' icon retreat led by Fr. Bo from the Edmonton Eparchy, and our pre-dawn Rorate Mass on the Feast of St. Lucy.

As our semester comes to a close with the last exams today, our community wishes you all a blessed Advent and a Merry Christmas!

We were glad to welcome Bishop Stephen Hero back to the seminary on Friday evening! When he is installed as the next Archbishop of Edmonton, Bishop Stephen will be the head of our community and will work alongside Fr. Sylvain Casavant PSS and the rest of the formation team to help guide us as we prepare for priestly ministry. Please keep Bishop Stephen, the formation team, and every member of our community in prayer as we undertake this transition!

We give thanks with the Catholic Archdiocese of Edmonton that Bishop Stephen Hero has been designated the next Archbishop of Edmonton. Bishop Stephen served at St. Joseph's from 2005 to 2021, including nine years as rector, and will become the head of our community as part of his new role.

We also pray with the Roman Catholic Diocese of Prince Albert as they await a new bishop.

A busy September has come and gone, and it was made better by several of our community events! Every seminarian attended the opening BBQ of the school year at Newman Theological College, and a few nights later, we ventured out to Rundle Park for an evening of frisbee golf. One Saturday night, several seminarians went on a pedal pub tour of the Old Strathcona neighbourhood, and at the end of September, we celebrated Oktoberfest in-house, with a beer stein race and German spelling bee. Please continue to pray for us as the semester continues, and know that we are praying for you!
