I remember reading a Reddit once where someone mused that candle making would be a good source of passive income…
and I laughed and laughed…
It’s definitely the opposite of passive income.
Good thing I love it.🍪
There are easier ways to do this. Faster ways, too.
But there’s something about making things by hand — the rhythm of it, the care, the step-by-step progress.
It might not make sense to everyone.
But in many ways, it’s its own reward.💫
Think of them as small, visual, wordless affirmations — simple reminders that help your mind pause for calm and clarity.
Each gemstone carries its own energy. They’re not just there to be pretty.
Welcome to part 2 of 8 ✨
Amethyst, the deep purple gemstones on our Fig and Blossom candles, has long been associated with mental calm and clarity, helping create a space that feels a little quieter, a little more grounded.
Not just something beautiful — something that helps shift how a space feels. 🌸
It’s never just a candle.✨
We use genuine gemstones to add a quiet layer of meaning — each one chosen with intention.
For the moments when someone is moving through something… and you don’t need many words. Just something thoughtful.
Welcome to part 1 of 8 of our gemstone series✨
Olivine:
Also known as the “Evening Emerald,” olivine is a form of peridot associated with growth, courage, and transformation.
A small detail… but sometimes, exactly the kind of energy someone needs.
Found on our Forest, Garden, and Lemongrass candles 💚
My business name isn’t just branding.✨
When Duane started this company, he was living in the Kootenays — a mountainous and fairly remote region in southeastern British Columbia. It’s rural.
He hand-poured every candle. He finished them with birch wood rounds cut from fallen trees on his sister’s property.
When I took on the company, I knew that if it was going to grow over time, it had to be aligned with who I am. Figuring out how to do that — how to make it fit me — wasn’t easy.
I live just outside Vancouver. I’m very much a suburban mom.
But my dreams are rural.
When I close my eyes, or catch myself daydreaming, it’s always the same place — forest, meadows, birds, and the ocean.
For me, there’s a dream carried inside this name.
Rural.
Even before I touch a candle or light it, I can see it and feel it.
There’s a spark — a memory of a dream, a sense of inspiration, and a quiet longing.
All held inside one name.

This space is changing a little. 🤍
Rural Candles began as my best friend’s dream. When he died, I inherited the business — and with it, the responsibility of deciding what came next.
“Do something with it,” he said. “…Make it your own.”
So, I did. Slowly. Carefully — learning as I go.
This account is where I’ll share more of that journey — the decisions, the care, and what it means to carry this brand forward.
If you’re here for the candles, you’re in the right place.
If you’re curious about the story behind them, you’re in the right place, too.
Thanks for following as it evolves. 🤍🕯️

A gentle reminder that there’s nothing you need to catch up to. You’re exactly where you’re meant to be.
Just popping in to say thank you. Truly. 🤍 For supporting our little candle studio, our retail partners, and all the quiet moments these candles are made for.
