At Nexus Chiropractic, we focus on what is called Neurospinal Optimization.

When we are placed under threat (real or perceived), the Nervous System shifts it's function and the spine shifts it's structure in order to protect us. When this response becomes locked or stuck we call it a Neurospinal Shift (NS), impacting our health and life.

Forget Average…Choose Extraordinary

People like to feel ‘normal.’ There is an inherent human desire to be like everyone else – to fit in. This desire impacts to clothes we choose to wear, the way we speak, the cars we drive and the activities we participate in.

This desire also shows up in how we treat our health. This is unfortunate because the picture of ‘average’ health in this country is very bleak, and it is getting worse by the year.

Average health metrics for Canadians show that "normal" or "average" health is characterized by high rates of excess weight, chronic conditions, medication dependence, and preventable risk factors.

68% of Canadian adults are overweight or obese and these rates are increasing with time.

45% of Canadian adults have one or more chronic diseases and lead to 67% of all deaths.

Two-thirds of Canadians over 40 have taken a prescription medication in the last month, and the numbers are much higher for seniors.

Only 50% of adults get the minimal 150 minutes of physical activity per week.
50% of Canadian adults have experienced mental illness.

Perhaps the most disturbing – it is estimated that less than 10% of adults are normal weight, are minimally physically active, do not have a chronic illness and do not have a mental illness.

Clearly, when it comes to health you DO NOT want to be ‘average,’ or ‘normal.’ In this case ‘average,’ means massive pain.

When it comes to your health you MUST fight the urge to want to be normal. If you want to avoid being another statistic, you MUST choose to be extraordinary. You cannot do what everyone else does and be healthy. You MUST make yourself an outlier.

Observe how the average person eats….and do something different.
Observe how the average person uses medications…and choose a different approach (with responsible supervision).

Observe how physically active the average person is…and do better.
Observe the lifestyle habits of the average person…and make different choices.
Observe how the average person responds to pain and health challenges…and respond differently.

I know this can seem like a lot. It may seem quite complicated and overwhelming.

It doesn’t have to be.

The most important first step is to embrace being EXTRAORDINARY when it comes to your health. Once you decide that this is an area to be better than average, the specific steps you take will become obvious and simple. Each one will build on the other until you become EXTRAORDINARILY healthy.

At Nexus Chiropractic, I often talk about our Superheroes. Seemingly ‘normal,’ folks who have chosen a different path and as a result are capable of EXTRAORDINARY things in life.

Instead of reactively chasing their pain, symptoms and health challenges after they happen (waiting for their oil light to come on before changing it), they consistently take action to upgrade the capacity of their spines and nervous systems in order to have greater adaptability, resilience and vitality. Small steps taken on a regular basis lead to EXTRAORDINARY outcomes, experiences and lives.

Regardless of your starting point, I invite you to choose EXTRAORDINARY – starting right now. You deserve it.

Mastery

In the past couple of months, I have attended two weekend technique seminars – the NetworkSpinal Discover Care Experience, followed by the Discover Care Practicum. These are the foundational or ‘basic,’ seminars of the technique system I have been using for over 25 years.
In those 25 years I have probably attended over 100 technique seminars and the equivalent of these particular programs dozens of times.
On the second morning of the first seminar, one of the instructors – and my long-time mentor – Dre. Christine Bourque asked me if I was getting anything out of the program after all these years. My response was that the previous night’s program was the most impactful hours of seminar I had ever attended.
Why do I continue to attend programs I have taken dozens of times? Is it because I am a slow learner? Maybe I am, but that is not why I go.
I keep going because I am committed to a path of mastery. I have no special talent that others don’t possess BUT when I found a technique system that produced results most consistent with my philosophy and goals as a health care practitioner, I knew that I wanted to get as good as possible.
Mastery requires repetition and consistent evolution. Michael Jordan did not get to a certain level of proficiency and then stop developing. The better he got, the harder he had to work to get even better. Anyone great at anything must constantly practice their craft and find ways to evolve over time.
The wonderful thing about the Network system is that it is built on a culture of mastery. The developer – Dr. Epstein – is constantly evolving the work, so much so that if you are not consistently attending programs, you fall behind the latest iterations. The teaching staff are likewise mastery junkies, which attracts practitioners who value the same things.
Because mastery is serious work, you must choose what you want to master wisely. You cannot master it all. You must pick what is most important to you.
In the age of the internet and unlimited cheap information, many people get addicted to learning a little about anything. Health practitioners flaunt how many different ‘certifications,’ they accumulate. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this as a wide breadth of knowledge is important. Sometimes mastery can get lost in the obsession for surface level knowledge.
I love learning new things but with the work I have done in my pursuit of mastery I am able to filter the new knowledge through the lens of philosophy I have developed. This is a true gift that keeps me from becoming confused by seemingly contradictory information.

In your own life, where are you committed to living the path of mastery? In your professional life? In your personal life? In your hobbies?
When it comes to my health, I focus on mastering resiliency and adaptability through an unobstructed nervous system and spine. This mastery impacts my weightlifting training, how I eat and how I recover. It also gives me the ability to help others to achieve the same every day at Nexus Chiropractic.
I highly encourage everyone to commit to a path of mastery in your life. It doesn’t have to be anything profound, but I can promise it will give you profound results.
In addition to the regular care, we provide to people on our Protection and Optimization plans at Nexus, we also give regular workshops that help you down the mastery path. We welcome you to join us!

We are starting off June with a wonderful testimonial!

This is Leslie’s testimonial:

What brought me to Nexus was that I was having lower back and neck pain which included some nerve pain. I wasn’t initially skeptical about the type of care – I was looking forward to receiving gentle care without being “cracked”.

When I initially saw my examination results I was surprised at how bad I was at first. It didn’t take very long at all to see huge improvements.

The significant changes that have happened since starting care is that I have zero nerve pain now! I also feel more flexible. Mostly I just have a better overall good feeling physically and emotionally.

Thank you for sharing your story, Leslie!
