Comox Fire Rescue is recruiting now for paid on call members to join our team.

Wildfire deployments can place a significant strain on our members and on the coverage we keep at home. Our firefighters have jobs, families, and other responsibilities, while emergency response in the communities we serve remains the priority.

Recently, one of our Society members and a Cumberland Fire Rescue apparatus deployed alongside Comox Fire Rescue as part of a Structural Protection Specialist crew at the Big Bar Complex near Clinton, BC.

Interagency cooperation like this continues to make Comox Valley fire departments more capable than they would be on their own. By working together, sharing resources, and supporting one another, we strengthen our collective ability to respond when both our own and other communities need us.

Great news for Comox! The Town has received $5 million in funding through the Build Communities Strong Fund (BCSF) Community Stream to help offset the cost of the new Comox Fire Station. This investment supports enhanced emergency services and helps ensure firefighters have the facilities they need to serve our growing community.

Congratulations to our latest recruit class and some new members on successfully completing their Emergency Traffic Control course today!

Training is a vital part of becoming a firefighter. It helps ensure our emergency scenes remain safe for first responders, patients, and everyone traveling through the area.

A big thank you to everyone who drove past our hall during today's training exercise. We truly appreciate your patience and support as we continue preparing our members to serve the community safely.

The Comox Firefighters Association is proud to award four $1,000 bursaries to deserving graduating students from Mark R. Isfeld Secondary School and Highland Secondary School.

This year's recipients - Bryce Morris, Brielle Pronick, Paige Murphy, and Honour Desaulniers, were selected from a large and highly competitive pool of applicants. Each recipient demonstrated outstanding commitment to their education, community involvement, and future goals.

These bursaries are presented in honour of Norm Pratt, a former Deputy Chief with Comox Fire Rescue who dedicated 42 years of service to the community. Before joining the fire service, Norm served as an aircraft mechanic with the Royal Canadian Air Force and later became a respected automotive mechanic. Throughout his career, he was known for his dedication, integrity, and commitment to helping others.

The Comox Firefighters Association is honoured to continue Norm Pratt's legacy by supporting local students as they pursue post-secondary education and begin the next chapter of their lives.

The Comox Valley Regional District is lifting its campfire prohibition effective Friday, July 3 at 12 p.m.

Please note that this change does not apply within the City of Courtenay or the Courtenay Fire Department's fire protection areas. All open burning is banned year-round in the City of Courtenay.

In Courtenay Fire Department's fire protection areas, campfires are not allowed under local fire protection area bylaws. Open burning for yard waste, industrial activities, or farming is also prohibited while the provincial fire ban is in place for category 2 and 3 open burning. As a result, all outdoor burning is currently banned in these areas.

Residents are encouraged to confirm the fire regulations that apply to their location before lighting any fire.
