The Seeing Machine became a sort of meme for my Front Range research project, which fundamentally explored how we perceive the material and immaterial qualities of the natural and built environments. 👁️ What started as an early stage “Instrument for Experience” prototype, transformed into a symbol for the curiosity guiding this final studio project.

The client described their vision for the new museum exhibitions spaces to be warm, welcoming, comfortable and familiar… like a living room. Not like the sterile white boxes that contemporary galleries have become associated with.

Connecting the museum to the Land was a core design driver derived from the placekeeping research. Local Elder, Ruby Sweetman, suggested the green rooftop could support the growing of ceremonial herbs to be shared with the neighbouring college and community. Giving the museum a dynamic and generative presence on the site.
