National Day for Truth and Reconciliation | September 30

As we mark National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we pause to remember.

We remember the children who never returned home.
We remember the families who were separated.
We remember those who lost their lives, their languages, their cultures, their identities, and their connection to community and land.

But remembrance must lead to action.

Truth and Reconciliation is not only about wearing orange or acknowledging the past. It calls us to listen, to learn, to reflect, and to change how we live, teach, work, and build relationships with one another.

Today, let us commit to moving beyond words and putting the Calls to Action into practice. Let us learn whose land we live, work, and raise our children on. Let us recognize and honour the First Peoples who have cared for these lands since time immemorial.

We are here because of the people who came before us and cared for this land. Their knowledge, languages, cultures, and relationships with the land are an important part of Canada’s story.

May we not only remember what was lost, but also honour what has endured.

May remembrance deepen our understanding.
May understanding inspire action.
And may action move us closer to reconciliation.
