This beautiful spot is Crater Lake Oregon. It was formed aprox. 7,700 years ago when the volcano Mt. Mazama erupted and then later collapsed. Its collapse formed this over 2,000 foot deep caldera which filled with water over 750 years.
There is no in or out flow of water from the crater and its water level is maintained by natural rainfall, run off and evaporation. The area is part of the Cascade Range and remains geologically active, meaning it could once again come to life.
