A nice upgrade for this home!

The original front and back doors were no longer sealing properly, and the old storm doors had seen better days. We replaced both with new solid-core steel pre-hung doors featuring full-lite glass to bring much more natural light into the home.

To make things a little more convenient, we installed new keypad deadbolts and keyed both doors alike, so one key works for both the front and back.

We also built a new front landing step to give the family a safe, solid place to step in and out of the house.

Sometimes it's the smaller upgrades that make the biggest difference in how a home looks, feels, and functions.

Who remembers this massive cedar deck?

Last year, we rebuilt nearly half of it. This year, we returned to bring the entire deck back to life.

The restoration began with a deep pressure wash to remove years of dirt, grime, and weathering.

We then applied a cedar brightener to even out the colour between the newer and older boards

Once the deck had dried, we sanded every square inch to create a smooth finish and properly prepare the cedar to absorb the stain, before finishing it with a fresh coat of Messmer's UV Plus Natural Redwood stain.

The result is a rich, uniform finish that highlights the natural beauty of the cedar while providing long-lasting UV and weather protection.

Now our clients can get back to enjoying their outdoor living space with confidence, knowing their investment is protected for seasons to come.

On this episode of This Old House...

This well-maintained duplex was built in 1967, but its original insulation was no longer keeping up with Calgary's winters.

The homeowners were struggling with cold north-facing rooms, where our prevailing winter winds tend to hit the hardest.

To solve the problem, we strategically removed sections of drywall and carefully pulled out the old, thin insulation. We then filled the wall cavities with high-performance spray foam insulation, sealed everything with a proper v***r barrier, and installed new drywall.

After that, the walls were finished with premium primer and paint, leaving them looking as good as new.

By planning the drywall removal carefully, we were able to leave the corner beads, window trim, and baseboards intact—saving our clients both time and money while minimizing disruption to their home.

The result? A warmer, more comfortable home and a much cozier winter ahead.

This pergola was showing its age and needed a refresh.

We started by scraping and sanding away the old peeling paint to create a solid surface for the new finish. Then we applied two fresh coats of paint and added modern metal post caps to give it an updated look.

While our clients plan to replace the pergola with a new design that offers more shade and functionality in the future, this restoration gives them extra time to finalize their vision and budget.

Sometimes a well-executed refresh is the perfect way to extend the life of an outdoor feature while planning for what's next.

After a decade of dealing with a broken garage entry door, our client finally gave their home an upgrade when the old door stopped sealing properly.

Winter often reveals overdue repairs.

We replaced the old frame with a new one, installing a metal door, keypad dead bolt, and matching black finish handle.

No more drafts or searching for keys.

Our youngest client (a very determined toddler) decided to test the limits of bathroom security—by locking the door and strategically opening a drawer to barricade himself inside.

Fortunately, Dad was on-site and ready to go full “Hulk mode” to resolve the situation.

A door and some trim didn’t survive the rescue… but no problem. We replaced everything, matched the paint, and now it looks like nothing ever happened—except for a pretty great story.
