As a Christian community that strives to live, play and help in the urban neighbourhoods of Calgary, we have chosen the name Commons Church to indicate our commitment to making the Kingdom of God tangible in our space. We believe God is invested in the renewal of all things therefore we want to live the "Good News" by being part of the rhythms of our city as good neighbours, good friends, and good citizens in the common life of Kensington.

The Creed is one of the oldest statements of Christian faith that we have, with its roots going back to the early centuries of the church.
What makes a creed meaningful is that we don’t just say it alone–we say it together.
We come with different experiences, different questions, and even different ways of understanding some of these words. But when we say them as a community, we’re reminded that faith has never been something we carry entirely on our own.

A Church Should Belong to a Neighbourhood.
In just a couple of weeks, Commons is going to embark on probably the most exciting thing, and certainly the most daring thing, that we have ever done in our twelve years. We are going to launch a second parish just south of Kensington, across the river in Marda Loop.
We’ve been hard at work on this all year. We acquired the facility and we spent a year renovating everything, getting it ready. In that time, we’ve been building the team, both the staff and the volunteers who are going to help Commons develop a presence and become part of that neighbourhood.
One of the important questions is why this way. Commons is a growing community. We run multiple services every Sunday, and the number of people who attend and move through our building on a Sunday is pretty remarkable. But why are we choosing to grow by launching a second parish instead of, let’s say, leveraging our inner city property in Kensington to find a bigger facility somewhere else in the city?
But this isn’t just a growth strategy for us. It’s an important part of how we see ourselves as part of the fabric of Calgary.

Throughout the entire renovation of our new church space in Marda Loop one of the things we’ve kept in mind is what a privilege it is to get to steward another building with a long faith history.
A church should belong to a neighborhood. And now we belong to Kensington, and starting September 20, Marda Loop ❤️
