Thank you, Mayor Farkas, for speaking up for all Calgarians. This complex crisis affects families, neighbourhoods and emergency services across our city. We need the Province and federal government working with the City, health care, the justice system and first responders on solutions that improve care and public safety. Calgary firefighters are ready to be part of that work.

CALGARY FIREFIGHTERS WIN $50M CONVENTION BID

IAFF firefighter delegates from across Canada and the United States voted at this year’s convention in Arlington, Texas, to bring the 2030 IAFF Convention to Calgary.

The convention is where firefighters help decide the future of their union and profession. Delegates debate and vote on resolutions and policy, including issues that affect firefighter health, safety and the communities we serve. In 2030, those decisions will be made here in Calgary.

Thousands of visitors are expected, with approximately $50 million in projected economic impact for local hotels, restaurants and businesses.

Thank you to Tourism Calgary for the hard work that helped make this possible and for showing delegates why Calgary is a destination worth choosing.

Your Calgary firefighters look forward to welcoming the IAFF in 2030!

288 names. 288 families. A promise to remember.

Last Saturday, the IAFF fire-service family gathered in Colorado Springs as 288 fallen members from Canada and the United States were honoured at the 2026 Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial.

Each name on the Wall of Honor belongs to someone who served their community and was loved at home. The memorial gives families a place to see that their loved one’s service is remembered and that they do not carry their loss alone.

Your Calgary firefighters remember them. We stand with their families, today and always.

14–0 FOR CALGARY’S FIRE SERVICE.

Calgary City Council voted unanimously to begin establishing a Fire Services Committee, the first of its kind in Canada. Your Calgary firefighters are proud to have advocated for this step for more than a decade.

The committee is intended to give fire service needs a dedicated public forum at City Hall. As Calgary grows, councillors need a clear view of staffing, trucks, fire halls and response pressures when deciding how to protect Calgarians and spend their tax dollars.

“This is about creating a dedicated public table where fire-related issues can be discussed regularly, transparently, and with stronger accountability.”

— Councillor Jennifer Wyness, in a LinkedIn post on May 28, 2026

Calgary Firefighters Association President Jamie Blayney called the vote “a monumental win for us.” We believe it can set a new standard for fire service governance across Canada. The work now is to build a committee that delivers on that promise for the people of Calgary.

Thank you to Councillor Wyness for bringing the motion forward and to every member of Council who supported it.

Canada Remembers Its Fallen Firefighters.

Today, firefighters and families gather in Ottawa for the 2026 Canadian Firefighter Memorial Ceremony.

We honour Canada’s fallen firefighters, those who gave their lives in service, and the families and fire-service communities who carry their memory forward.

The Canadian Firefighters Memorial, “We Were There,” stands as a permanent place to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice, with the names of fallen firefighters from across Canada.

From your Calgary firefighters to every family, crew and honour guard gathered in Ottawa today:

We remember. We Were There.

25 years ago, the world changed forever.

On September 11, 2001, coordinated terrorist attacks took the lives of 2,977 innocent people in New York City, at the Pentagon and aboard Flight 93.

Among those killed were 24 Canadians and 343 firefighters who answered the call and ran toward danger as thousands fought to escape.

We remember every innocent life taken that morning. We remember the firefighters, police officers, paramedics and other first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice. And we remember those who have died in the years since from illnesses linked to their work at Ground Zero.

For your Calgary firefighters, September 11 is a reminder of what service can demand when the unthinkable happens.

We remember the courage.
We remember the sacrifice.
We remember the 24 Canadians who never came home.
We remember the 343.

Never Forget.
