A former Calgary gym owner and taekwondo instructor has been sentenced to two years in prison after pleading guilty to child po*******hy and child luring offences involving underage girls online.

Bradley Hutchison, 41, admitted to engaging in sexualized online conversations and exchanging photos with teenage girls between 2016 and 2018. Court heard that messages involving 17 girls, ranging in age from 10 to 17, were documented in the case, with many of the victims living in the Philippines. Justice Sheri Epp described his behaviour as “egregious” and imposed an additional three years of probation following his prison sentence.

Elections Alberta says multiple safeguards are in place to prevent special ballots from being fraudulently requested or used, including when ballots are mailed outside the province.

Every special ballot request is manually reviewed to ensure the voter’s name and Alberta residential information match the voter registry. Voters are also notified during several stages of the process, while completed ballots must include authorized identification and a signed declaration matching registration records. Elections Alberta says that if someone later attempted to vote in person after a ballot had already been recorded under their identity, it would trigger an investigation.

Calgary drivers were hit with a sudden jump at the pumps, with gasoline reaching as high as $1.75 per litre just one day after Alberta paused its 13-cent provincial fuel tax.

Prices at many Calgary stations had been around $1.39.9 per litre Thursday before some locations increased prices by more than 30 cents. The province says it expects the tax savings to be passed on to consumers and is encouraging Albertans who suspect price gouging to report it. By Saturday morning, prices across Calgary varied widely, ranging from approximately $1.36 to $1.75 per litre.
