🌺 With Remembrance Day approaching on November 11, Canadians are preparing to honour the brave individuals who served and sacrificed in times of war.

The tradition of wearing a red poppy began with John McCrae’s iconic poem “In Flanders Fields,” which described poppies growing on the battlefields of World War I. In 1921, the Great War Veterans' Association—now the Royal Canadian Legion—adopted the poppy as a symbol of remembrance. Thanks to Madame Anna Guerin of France, artificial poppies were sold to raise funds for veterans—a tradition that continues today.
Millions of poppies are distributed each year and worn on the left lapel, close to the heart, as a tribute to courage, sacrifice, and peace.

👉 Support our veterans by purchasing a poppy from your local Royal Canadian Legion or donation box. Every poppy helps fund essential programs for those who served.

🕊️ Remembrance Day Events in Calgary – November 11, 2025
Here are some meaningful ways to honour veterans in Calgary:

Field of Crosses Ceremony – Memorial Drive, 10:10 a.m. (televised)
The Military Museums – Ceremony at 10:45 a.m., admission by donation
Hangar Flight Museum – Outdoor service at 10:30 a.m., dress warmly
CPKC Memorial Square – Ceremony with moment of silence and train whistle at 11:02 a.m.
Central Memorial Park – Calgary Highlanders parade and ceremony from 10:45 a.m.
Studio Bell – Music tribute begins at 10:40 a.m.
Royal Canadian Legion Branches – Ceremonies across the city (check your local branch)

The CCA is hosting a Skating with Santa community event on Sunday, December 14th at Chaparral Valley Square Park and we’re exploring interest in adding a mini Christmas market to the festivities!

If you're a local vendor and would like to set up a table, we’d love to hear from you. Here are the details:

Event: Skating with Santa + Mini Christmas Market
Date: Sunday, December 14th
Time: 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM (weather permitting)
Location: Chaparral Valley Square Park
Cost: CCA membership required ($20)
What to bring: Your own table and setup

This is a great opportunity to connect with the community and share your products in a festive, family-friendly setting.

The LCRA Christmas Craft Fair is back on November 22nd from 10am - 4pm!

Come by the lakehouse to shop for the holidays and support a diverse range of local vendors.

This event will once again be open to LCRA members and members of the public to encourage vendor sales and engagement. This year, we will be charging $5 per entry for general members of the public that are not a member or guest of the LCRA.
