WE PLAYED SOME FLAMES OF WAR TODAY!

But, despite the D-Day anniversary, today's game wasn't set on D-Day. It was still very Liberation-of-Europe in theme, though: Canadians attacking the German defenders in Italy 😛

Dion and Kyle's armies fought to a standstill, but the Canadian 49th Regiment (the "Loyal Eddies") managed to carry the day and claim/hold an objective in the enemy's territory (the "Dust Up"
Mission's win condition).

--Tho' ...the "hold" portion of that hadn't been quite accomplished when we decided to close down the game.

(Kyle's two battered Canadian platoons on the objective could verily been thwarted and retired off the board--but that required Dion's mortars to do a semi-decent barrage and then for the infantry to fail their saves.....to which Dion woukd then have to move his heavy MGs to strafe the Canadian universal carrier platoon and destroy both of them. Keeping the Canadians from holding the objective wasn't a Hail Mary play. It was two of them.)

So, yeah, we called it there. But now, we're both PUMPED for the upcoming "Liberation of Europe" book, due out later this month!

It was 82 years ago this morning that the Allies stormed the beaches of Normandy in France.
Canadian forces landed on the beach codenamed: Juno. The 3rd Canadian Infantry division not only took the beach but also made it furthest inland of all the Allied forces that day.
