Western Windows

Today is Intergenerational Day, a great reminder of the importance of keeping families connected. ❤️🏡

Across Alberta, more families are choosing to live with multiple generations under one roof, and legal secondary suites have become an increasingly popular way to create comfortable, independent living space for aging parents and other family members.

But when creating a legal suite, safety has to be part of the plan.

Every basement bedroom must have a compliant egress window that provides a safe way out in an emergency and allows emergency personnel a way in.

✅ Opens from the inside without keys, tools or special knowledge
✅ Stays open without additional support
✅ Provides at least 0.35 m² (3.8 ft²) of unobstructed opening
✅ No opening dimension can be less than 380 mm (15")
✅ New window wells require at least 760 mm (30") of clearance in front of the window

Whether you’re developing a secondary suite for family or simply renovating a lower level bedroom, Western Windows can help make sure your new windows provide the safety, comfort and peace of mind your family deserves.

🍂 Hello, fall!

September 22 marks the first day of fall, which means cooler weather on the way, changing leaves… and the annual question: is it too early to start decorating for spooky season? 🎃

Whether you’re keeping it simple with a few pumpkins and fall colours or already breaking out the cobwebs, your front entrance is one of the easiest places to give your home a seasonal refresh.

So… fall décor now and Halloween later, or are we going straight to spooky season? 👻

September is Mold Awareness Month, and with cooler weather on the way, now is a good time to pay attention to moisture around your windows.

It isn’t uncommon to see some condensation on the inside of your window panes and frames as the weather cools outside and the temperature inside your home gets turned up. Warm indoor air holds moisture, and when it meets a colder window surface, condensation can form.

That’s why staying on top of the humidity levels in your home is so important. If moisture does collect on your windows, wipe it up regularly rather than allowing it to sit for extended periods of time.

Persistent moisture can eventually contribute to staining, damaged finishes and conditions where mold can grow.

It’s also worth watching for condensation between the panes, water staining around the window opening, peeling paint, damp drywall or signs of an active leak. Those may indicate a problem beyond normal indoor condensation.

Take a few minutes this month to check the windows around your home, especially in bathrooms, basements and other areas where humidity tends to be higher.

If you’re noticing leaks, damaged seals, drafts or aging windows, Western Windows can help you determine whether repair or replacement is the right next step.

A little moisture management and preventative maintenance can go a long way toward protecting your home.

“Just had Western Windows install two egress windows. They were prompt and on time. Communication was great with them and they did a fantastic job. Pricing was competitive and the installers conducted themselves with professionalism. They left a clean jobsite after the completion. I would definitely deal with them again.”

Thanks again, Joe! We truly appreciate the kind words and your trust in the Western Windows team.

Backpacks packed. Shoes tied. First day photos snapped. 📚📸

For many families, this week marks the start of another school year, and once again, the front entryway becomes the backdrop for some pretty important milestones.

It’s where those first day of school photos are taken. Where busy mornings begin. Where everyone rushes out the door to school, work, practices and activities. And at the end of a long day, it’s the place that welcomes everyone home again.

Your front door is part of more family moments than you might realize.

If yours is starting to look a little tired, difficult to operate, drafty or simply ready for an update, Western Windows can help you find a beautiful, secure and energy efficient replacement that fits your home.

Here’s to another school year and all the moments that will happen between coming and going. ❤️

Just because we’ve reached the end of August and cooler weather is on the way doesn’t mean your window or door replacement has to wait until next year.

Window replacements can be completed year round, with the exception of periods of severe weather like heavy rain or strong winds.

🕙 Most window replacement projects can be completed in just one day.

☀️ Energy efficient windows provide benefits in every season, helping improve comfort while reducing heat loss and energy costs.

📅 Another benefit of replacing your windows in the fall or winter? Scheduling can often be more flexible, with shorter wait times than during the busiest spring and summer months.

At Western Windows, our experienced in house installers are ready to help with your window and exterior door needs, no matter the season.

So if you’ve been asking Google, “Is it too late to change my windows this year?”

The answer is no. 😉

On Senior Citizens Day, we’re thinking about the little things that can help make a home safer, brighter and more comfortable as we age. ❤️

More natural light can improve visibility throughout the home, helping make stairs, hallways and everyday obstacles easier to see.

Modern windows and doors can also be much easier to open, close and operate, while energy efficient products help reduce drafts, maintain a more comfortable indoor temperature and keep heating and cooling costs under control.

At Western Windows, we believe the right products can help make your home more comfortable, practical and enjoyable for years to come. 🏡☀️

It won’t be long before the front entryway becomes the backdrop for those first-day-of-school photos again. 📚🎒

But we’re not there quite yet.

There are still popsicles to eat, sunny days to enjoy, and a little summer left to squeeze in. ☀️

So for now… let’s all keep summering just a little longer, shall we? 😎

Happy Saturday from Western Windows!

If you could bring more natural light into ONE room in your home, which would it be? ☀️🏡

Your kitchen? Dining room? Living room? Home office? Maybe a basement or bedroom that has always felt a little too dark?

Sometimes, transforming a space can be as simple as increasing the size of an existing window or adding a new one where it makes sense.

More glass. More natural light. A brighter, more open feeling throughout your home.

If you could add or enlarge a window anywhere in your house, **which room would you choose?** 👇
