Green Line Calgary
Green Line LRT
Calgary’s largest infrastructure project. Construction underway | Opening 2031. The Green Line project is moving ahead!
As of March 18, 2025, funding commitments from the City of Calgary, Province of Alberta, and Government of Canada have been confirmed. The City of Calgary is responsible for delivering the project, with construction of the SE Segment beginning in 2025. At the same time, the City of Calgary will begin work immediately on a Functional Plan for the Downtown Segment, based on the Government of Alberta's plan and alignment, using 10 Avenue and 2 Street SW (view their plan here). The Functional Plan will advance design, validate the Province’s cost estimates, understand potential impacts to existing infrastructure and ensure the project is broadly supported by Calgarians prior to starting construction.

We acknowledge that this land is part of the territory of the Niitsitapi (the Blackfoot Confederacy), made up of the Siksika, Kainai, Piikani, and Amskaapi Piikani First Nations. This land is also significant to the Dene people of the Tsuut’ina First Nation, as well as the Îyârhe Nakoda people, consisting of the Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Goodstoney First Nations.
Calgary is the homeland of the historic Northwest Métis and the Elbow and Nose Hill Districts of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government of Alberta.
We also acknowledge all urban Indigenous people who build their lives on this land. The Green Line LRT is being developed during an important time of Truth and Reconciliation for our country and city.
Green Line acknowledges Indigenous history and the ongoing effects of colonization and believes the project can be emblematic of reconciliation. As Green Line takes shape across this land, Indigenous perspectives continue to help inform how the project is planned, designed and delivered. Through ongoing collaboration with Indigenous communities, Elders and Knowledge Holders, we are grateful for the opportunity to listen, learn and build relationships grounded in respect and trust.
On National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we reflect on the importance of learning from the past, honouring Indigenous histories and experiences, and continuing the work of reconciliation.
This year, our team wore orange shirts in recognition of Orange Shirt Day and gathered together to reflect on the significance of the day and our shared responsibility to advance reconciliation through meaningful action.
We were also grateful to share orange shirt cookies prepared by our friends at Grey Eagle Resort & Casino in partnership with Cookies for a Cause. The initiative supports the Tsuut’ina Elders Program, helping keep Elders connected, supported and cared for within the community. Sharing these cookies provided an opportunity to come together, reflect and continue important conversations about reconciliation.
The Green Line is more than a transit project. It is an opportunity to honour Indigenous knowledge, strengthen relationships, and support reconciliation.

First came the girders. Now comes the deck. 🌉
Just weeks after installing seven concrete girders, crews from Graham Construction & Engineering Inc. have poured the deck for the new Green Line LRT bridge at 78 Avenue SE in Ogden.
The girders are the large beams that hold the bridge up. The deck is the concrete surface on top, where our train tracks will be installed. With the deck in place, the bridge is now clearly taking shape.
In a few short years, our light-rail trains will be running over 78 Avenue SE alongside the Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) rail corridor, while cars, buses and cyclists keep moving underneath. No waiting at a crossing. Trains above, traffic below.
Another visible sign of progress on the Green Line LRT.
Tap through the photos to see the bridge come together, from foundations to abutments to girders to the deck.

🌱 Every journey toward reconciliation starts with a single step—or in this case, a single seed.
This September, Calgary Parks is working with Green Line Calgary to give away exclusive (and dare we say gorgeous!) native wildflower seed packets, created in partnership with Indigenous Elders and Knowledge Holders.
These seeds are inspired by Seed Stories, a Green Line LRT video series that celebrates the Indigenous Plant Project, a collaboration between Green Line, Treaty 7 Nations, Otipemisiwak Métis Government and Parks & Open Spaces.
The Indigenous Plant Project supports the restoration of culturally significant native plants along the Green Line LRT alignment and, one day, across Calgary, beginning in our City parks. Seed Stories celebrates this work by sharing and honouring Indigenous knowledge and voices, advancing reconciliation, and helping to broaden and restore local ecosystems. Each seed pack contains (tiny but mighty) native wildflower seeds to help you re-story and restore the land right in your own backyard.
We're helping you get started by giving away seed packets to four lucky winners.

The downtown route is set.
Today, City Council officially approved a surface route for the Downtown Segment of the Green Line LRT. Connecting the Event Centre/Grand Central Station to a new station on 10 Avenue near 2 Street SW.
𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞'𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐰:
✅Design process
✅Continued work with businesses and property owners along 10 Avenue S
✅Mapping out the road to construction
With approval in place, we're committed to listening, sharing information and working with businesses, property owners and residents to ensure their feedback is incorporated into the design.
And this is just the beginning: Council also greenlit the next steps for planning and budgeting of the south and north extensions, growing the vision for a more connected Calgary. We're back in front of Executive Committee on November 3 with updates on the south and north, and the MAX Green BRT line from Keystone Hills to downtown.

Today, the Executive Committee of Council agreed on a surface alignment for the Downtown Segment of the Green Line LRT!
Leveraging the design and functionality of the new fleet of low-floor vehicles to connect the Event Centre/Grand Central Station to an 𝐚𝐭-𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐭 𝟏𝟎 𝐀𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐮𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝟐 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐒𝐖.
The station will include a new climate-controlled pedestrian connection to give riders seamless access to the Plus 15 network, the Red and Blue lines, MAX BRT routes, and downtown workplaces.
This critical decision allows for design, planning and procurement to begin, concurrent to targeted engagement with property and business owners along 10 Avenue S, and holds the overall project schedule previously approved by the Government of Canada, Province of Alberta and City Council.
The Committee also directed that Administration bring forward the budget required to begin planning work on both the south extension to Seton and on the north corridor, to bring north central transit into Eau Claire and the broader downtown network.
With construction well underway on the SE Project, from Shepard to the Event Centre/Grand Central Station, today’s decision marks the final step needed to deliver Phase 1 of the Green Line LRT Program for Calgarians, building the backbone of an overall 46-kilometre vision.

A refreshed parking lot is coming to Pop Davies Athletic Park, and the work starts below ground.
This week, North Star Contracting crews installed a large stormwater system on site. It will manage rainwater runoff and support the construction of a new paved parking lot, which is currently underway.
Once complete, the new lot will replace the existing gravel parking area and include:
🅿️ more than 100 parking stalls
💡 improved lighting
🚶 continued access to the park while Green Line LRT construction continues along Ogden Road
This work is an important step forward for ongoing and future Green Line construction, including the Lynnwood/Millican Station and a Park and Ride with 200+ stalls.
The new parking lot being built today will serve park visitors right away, while also helping pave the way for the transit infrastructure that will connect southeast Calgary to fast, reliable transit for decades to come.

Next time you're driving Blackfoot Trail S.E., look up. The future Green Line LRT bridge just reached a major construction milestone!
Crews from EllisDon Corporation have finished pouring the concrete decks for the Blackfoot Trail LRT Bridge, completing both the main bridge deck that Green Line trains will run on and the multi-use pathway deck for pedestrians and cyclists.
This bridge will carry our trains over a busy Calgary roadway, keeping traffic flowing below while trains cross safely above. It also adds a new connection to the city's pathway network for anyone walking or biking through the area.
Which project milestone would you like to see next? Tell us below👇

👉 Take a look back at some of our favourite moments from this summer's Green Line LRT events!
From big festivals to neighbourhood pop-ups, we spent the season connecting with thousands of Calgarians all along the Green Line LRT alignment in the southeast. From Shepard at our Canadian Tire pop-ups, to Quarry Park at the Re*****on YMCA Breakfast, to Ramsay/Inglewood at Inglewood Sunfest, Crossroads Market Ltd. and the Inglewood Night Market.
We met people of all ages and backgrounds and had the opportunity to connect directly with Calgarians about the SE Project, where it will go, what's being built, and what construction will look like as work continues across the alignment.
What made these conversations especially meaningful was the chance to hear what you’re curious about and to learn how the project relates to your day-to-day life. Every conversation was a little different. Some wanted to know how the Green Line could shape their future commute, while others had questions about construction in their community, or how stations and accessibility features are being designed. Being there in person gave us the chance to have conversations that were personal, relevant, and specific to each individual.
Most importantly, we heard directly from those who are excited to start riding the Green Line in 2031. What we heard this summer is already helping shape how we share information, answer your questions, and keep communities informed as the project moves forward.
A huge thank you to the local businesses, festivals, partners, and residents who welcomed us into their communities. We appreciate you!

If you've driven past 78 Avenue S.E. in Ogden recently, you probably noticed that things look a little different.
That's because our partner Graham Construction & Engineering Inc. has installed seven girders for the future Green Line LRT bridge. These massive structural beams form a critical part of the bridge structure, and will carry the weight of our trains as they travel across the route.
Each was built off-site, then lifted into place—one of the few construction milestones you could have actually watched happen from your car window.
Once the bridge is complete, it will allow trains and traffic to move independently instead of competing for the same road space. This project is part of the broader effort to improve access through this corridor, which also includes the new roundabout connecting 78 Avenue and Ogden Dale Road S.E. that was completed last year (also by Graham!).
Next up: bridge deck construction, the final piece before the bridge takes its finished shape.
Did you see it on your drive? DM us your photos, we'd love to see them!
