PsyCan - White Paper 10/11/2023

PsyCan recently released its 2023 white paper urging the Federal Government to look beyond the Special Access Program in regulating psychedelic substances.

PsyCan Vice-Chair, White Paper Committee Chair, and SABI Mind president Dr. Philippe Lucas Ph.D., said: “The Canadian healthcare system is based on the principle of patient and physician autonomy in making fundamental decisions about medical treatments. However, most psychedelic-assisted therapies are an exception to this – requiring individual federal government approval on a per-patient basis,”

Illuminating Consciousness Through the Lens of Psychedelics 10/06/2023

SABI Mind presents Full Circle on October 25th 6:00 PM - 7:00 pm MST

An ongoing event series that features insights and in-depth conversations with psychedelic-assisted therapy professionals.

Explore how psychedelic neuroscience has helped to inform the emerging science of consciousness with Sidath Rankaduwa and discover a few philosophical issues that arise when we try to understand consciousness through the lens of psychedelics. Sidath will investigate questions such as: To what extent is the psychedelic state a "higher state" of consciousness? And what would it mean for a conscious state to be a "higher" state?

Sidath Rankaduwa is a Ph.D. student in Neuroscience at Western University, studying the effects of psychedelics -- particularly psilocybin -- on consciousness and cognition.

This free 45-minute moderated presentation will take place virtually over Zoom, with a Q&A to follow.

Psychedelic use linked to decreased alcohol and co***ne intake, but increased to***co and cannabis consumption 09/20/2023

PsyPost’s recent online article featured the results of the Canadian Psychedelic Survey (CPS) and a new publication, “Changed Substance Use After Psychedelic Experiences Among Individuals in Canada,” from co-authors Philippe Lucas (SABI Mind), Kevin Boehnke and Dan Kruger from UMich.

Our gratitude to study sponsors MAPS PBC, SABI Mind and Psygen.

"In this large, online survey of Canadians using psychedelics naturalistically, nearly half of individuals reported substantial decreases in alcohol, to***co, and other substance use following psychedelic experiences, with 25.9% reporting decreased use for 5 weeks or more. Participants rated psilocybin as the most impactful psychedelic for ceasing or decreasing use of other substances and cited reductions in anxiety/depression and increased connectedness to self, others and nature as the most common explanatory factors for these changes”.

Do people need prior psychotherapy experience to engage effectively with psychedelic integration?

“Not necessarily. It can be helpful if people have an existing framework for understanding their struggles; how they conceptualize the barriers to change. Prior experience can also provide tools like how to ground or how to cultivate a sense of safety when coping. But it’s not a mandatory prerequisite.” - Dr. Jessica McLachlan.

Dr. Jessica McLachlan was one of our past Full Circle guests. In her talk, she covered the fundamentals of psychedelic integration.

Full Circle is an ongoing event series that features insights and in-depth conversations with psychedelic-assisted therapy professionals.
