How do you convince an investor to back a deep-tech prototype before you have a single dollar of commercial market traction?

In complex, asset-heavy industries like STEM and energy, the gap between "lab prototype" and "market powerhouse" is massive. Building credibility during this phase requires more than just a great pitch, it requires a masterclass in risk mitigation and strategic ecosystem building.

On June 18th, Platform Calgaryโ€™s next Community Connect is pulling back the curtain on this exact challenge. We are hosting an exclusive fireside chat with two incredible local founders who are actively rewriting the rules of industrial decarbonization:

โšกAleisha Reese Cerny โ€“ CEO & Co-Founder of Serenity Power
๐ŸŒฑKamelia Giles โ€“ CEO & Co-Founder of Innova Cleantech Corp.

One of the biggest challenges for early-stage founders isn't finding customers. It's knowing how to turn customer insight into meaningful sales conversations.

That's where Sales 101: From Insight to Outreach comes in.

This hands-on workshop is designed for founders who have completed customer discovery and are ready to take the next step: building outreach habits, starting conversations, and creating momentum.

Together, we'll tackle questions like:
๐Ÿ”น How do you move from "I understand your problem" to "here's why you should act now"?
๐Ÿ”น Why doesn't awareness of a problem always create urgency to solve it?
๐Ÿ”น How do you build a repeatable outreach process without feeling salesy or pushy?
๐Ÿ”น What does an early-stage sales pipeline actually need to look like?

You'll leave with:
โœ” A sharper value proposition
โœ” A personalized outreach script you can use immediately
โœ” A simple pipeline tracking system to keep conversations moving

Facilitated by Trevor Dietrich, Fractional Sales Executive & Startup Coach.
With more than 25 years of sales and marketing leadership experience, Trevor has helped over 50 startups build go-to-market strategies, generate revenue, and create repeatable sales processes. As a founder himself, he understands the challenges of moving from customer discovery to customer acquisition.

You've talked to customers. You understand the problem. But how do you turn those insights into actual sales conversations?

That's the focus of Sales 101: From Insight to Outreach, one of the newest sessions in the Platform Labs workshop series.

Many founders get stuck between customer discovery and customer acquisition. They know the problem they're solving, but struggle to start outreach, build a pipeline, and create enough momentum to generate real opportunities.

This hands-on workshop is designed to help bridge that gap.

You'll learn how to:
๐Ÿ”น Turn customer insights into compelling value statements
๐Ÿ”น Build confidence in early sales conversations
๐Ÿ”น Develop practical outreach habits and cadence
๐Ÿ”น Handle resistance and keep conversations moving
๐Ÿ”น Create a simple system to track and manage your pipeline

And you'll leave with more than just ideas.
โœ” A sharpened value proposition
โœ” A first-draft outreach script you can use immediately
โœ” A simple pipeline tracking framework to support your next steps

If you've validated a problem and are ready to start talking to customers, this workshop is built for you.

This week at Tech Talent Tuesdays, the conversation focused on a shift many organizations are already experiencing:
AI is changing how work gets done โ€” and raising the bar for how value is created.

Together with Kelsey Hahn from Monark and Jihoon (JJ) Jung from White Whale Analytics, we explored what AI adoption looks like in practice and how teams are adapting as technology becomes embedded into day-to-day workflows, decision-making, and operations.

A few themes stood out:
๐Ÿ”น AI is increasing productivity, but also raising expectations for talent and performance
๐Ÿ”น Work is shifting from task ex*****on to outcome ownership
๐Ÿ”น Judgment, adaptability, communication, and continuous learning are becoming stronger differentiators
๐Ÿ”น As technical ex*****on becomes more accessible, problem definition and critical thinking matter more than ever
๐Ÿ”น Smaller teams can move faster with AI-enabled workflows, but leadership, culture, and systems remain essential

One idea surfaced throughout the discussion:
The advantage isn't simply knowing how to use AI. It's knowing how to apply it to solve the right problems and create meaningful outcomes.

Thank you to Kelsey and JJ for sharing practical insights from their work, and to everyone who joined us for another thoughtful conversation on the future of work in Calgary's innovation ecosystem.

๐Ÿ”œ Next up: June 9 โ€” AgTech Career Showcase
Technology is transforming one of Alberta's most important industries.

From automation and AI to digital systems and supply chain innovation, agriculture and food production are evolving rapidly โ€” creating new opportunities for talent across the sector.

Join us as we explore how technology is reshaping agriculture, the workforce trends driving change, and the skills employers are increasingly looking for.
We'll be joined by Jennifer Wright, Executive Director of the Canadian Agricultural Human Resource Council, who will share insights into the future of work across Canada's agriculture and agtech sectors.
