✨ Holiday Truth from a Work in Progress — The Jerk I Married & His 4 Wives 🎄📚

I’ve been married to the same man for over 30 years…
But depending on the year (and the level of emotional unraveling),
he was married to Wife #1: The Happy Homemaker,
Wife #2: The Bored Housewife with Wine,
Wife #3: Herbal-Tea Hippy,
and Wife #4: The Balanced One (she visits, doesn’t always stay).

The holidays were always… revealing.

🛍️ The Jerk was notoriously bad at buying presents.
He’d say, “I didn’t know what to get,” and often bought nothing.

There came a year (around the transition between Pinot Grigio and Patchouli Oil) when I got tired of being disappointed…
So I started telling him exactly what I was buying for me — from him.

Sometimes I even bought it, brought it home, and said,
“Look what you got me. You did well this year.” 🎁

And somewhere in there… I realized:

✨ I could either stay miserable waiting for someone to change
—or—
✨ adapt, accept, and love him for who he was.

That moment didn’t just change Christmas…
It changed our marriage.

This book is about that kind of shift.
From blaming to understanding.
From wishing to appreciating.
From silent resentment to self-awareness (and sometimes self-funded diamonds).

Looking back, I realized the houses we lost, built, and rebuilt were never the full story. The real work was rebuilding myself.

This line has been echoing through my heart as I write. My book is a reflection on 30+ years of marriage, raising children (including one with special needs), and learning that the hardest but most freeing work was turning inward.

Some days, the writing flows. Other days, I stare at the screen wondering if I should even share any of this. But maybe that’s part of the journey too — showing up imperfectly.
