We’re such fans of Cesàr Márquez’s ultra-boutique winery from the Bierzo region of Spain, we thought it’d only make sense to highlight their white wine wine selection on our list, “La Salvacíon” Godello.

Named for Márquez’s desire to “salvage” the century-old strains of godello grapes planted amongst the Mencía vines, this white is impeccably balanced with expressive flavours & a salty finish.

The godello grapes are manually collected, de-stemmed, and pressed - then decanted for 24 hours before fermenting in French oak barrels without batonage, temperature control, or added yeasts for 11 months. This yields a mere 1,780 bottles, making this a very rare wine indeed!

Nose: stone fruit, dried fruit, wildflower, herbaceous undertones, hints of pastries & toast

Tasting notes: pineapple, lemon zest, Granny Smith apple, layered, complex, flavourful, briny, invigorating, with a distinctive saline finish

A pick for New Wine Wednesday! The 2020 Margaux Rouge is an expressive, elegant red - a true steak-lovers wine - that pairs perfectly with the wood-fired and charcoal-grilled dishes The Nash is famous for!

Maison Sichel dates back to 1883 when the Sichel Family moved from Britain to Bordeaux to set up shop as wine merchants. By the 20th century, they had established themselves as winemakers, acquiring famed chateaus all over France & building their own winemaking facility in 1967. Seven generations later, they continue to expand operations not only in France, but around the world.

The Margaux appellation covers five municipalities & is the only one in the Médoc where you find the entire range - from first to fifth Grand Cru Classé.

A blend of 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot vines grown in gravelled terroir, the grapes are mostly handpicked, crushed, de-stemmed & then heated to 22 degrees Celsius to allow for a quick start to fermentation. After fermentation, they are aged in French oak barrels for 6-8 months, racking every 4 weeks.

Nose: spicy notes, black fruit

Tasting notes: jammy red fruit, oak, vanilla, toast

High quality tannins create a persistent finish. This vintage will develop for many years, with notes of leather, cinnamon, clove, and truffle starting to emerge.
