Pay attention to the subtle nudges in life.

I was happy to spend some time with on Saturday night. The older I get, the harder it seems to align two people’s schedules! But we finally did it.

She brought over a ā€œpaint by numbersā€ which is something I don’t think I’ve ever done but was immediately excited to play around with.

We ended up getting so deep in conversation that we ran out of time for the painting, but it planted a seed in my brain.

I used to paint frequently when I was younger. I especially enjoyed painting using watercolor and had taken some art classes in that medium in the past.

Although we didn’t end up painting during our time hanging out, it planted the seed that reminded me how much I used to enjoy painting. I immediately felt a desire to pick up a paintbrush.

And so – off I went; to a local paint store to pick up a few beginner water colour items the very next day.

I have been painting every evening since! I can’t tell you how relaxing it has been for me. Almost meditative. I forgot how much joy it can bring me to just allow my brush to flow on the paper, not expecting any outcome, simply enjoying my time.

It served as a reminder to me that it is important to lean into the little nudges and ideas that come to your mind seemingly out of the blue. Perhaps it’s leading you somewhere.

I don’t know if the painting is leading me anywhere other than peaceful, creative evenings but honestly? I couldn’t be happier with that.

Short blog post on the struggle of being a woman in her 30's, unsure if and how children will fit into her life.

If you are someone like me, I would love your insight on the topic. If you are someone who has children and can share an alternate outlook, I would love to hear it.

Had the opportunity to work with the talented Kristin Ross] for a fun little project.

The photos were not for us, but rather a client.

BUT! I feel so lucky to get to reap the benefits of finally having a few nice photos of Philip and I together. And really - what better way to capture us (or rather HIM) than in the mountains?

Working with Kristin Ross] was marvellous and I am blown away by her ability to capture us at our best. If you are looking for a photographer, I would HIGHLY recommend checking her out.

It is also note worthy that Philip was VERY excited about his matching outfit šŸ¤šŸ˜‚

Beautiful day out in the mountains yesterday partnered with another social media free Sunday! Felt SO DAMN GOOD.

It’s not that often I get out in the mountains with Philip so I was super grateful to get the whole day with him. AND I actually managed to get myself up the tiniest little ice climb.

PS guess which one of us wore Birkenstock’s šŸ˜‚

This past year has been difficult financially for me. Perhaps switching from a successful career in fashion to taking a leap of faith into fitness just 4 months before Covid took over the world was not the best play.

I went from purchasing a new outfit for every possible event, getting my nails done regularly, Botox, dinners, new workout clothes, you name it – I bought it.

I didn’t want for much.

I wasn’t aware of how frivolous my spending was because I didn’t need to be. I was comfortable, and I got what I wanted – when I wanted it.

Fast forward to the last year and things couldn’t have looked more different. I cut out anything I didn’t NEED – which turns out, is most things.

No more new outfits. No more nails. No more fancy dinner or spa appointments on a whim.

At first, I felt sad. Sad that I wasn’t getting to enjoy all the luxurious experiences that I previously didn’t blink an eye at.

But then things began to change.

I began to realize how unnecessary most of my spending was. I have a closet full of clothes yet would always think I needed something new.

I can make delicious food right here in my home and share it with friends with who I want to connect.

And it turns out – I can, in fact, live without a fresh paint job on my nails and some tightening of the face.

While the past year has challenged me on many levels, I am grateful for the lessons it taught me as I’m not sure I would have learned these things without the adversity faced.

Life is not made beautiful by things; it is made beautiful by experiences. It is made beautiful by connections, both internal and external.

I spent so much time blindly spending money on things I didn’t need that I didn’t slow down and appreciate all that I do have.

I have a beautiful space to live in. I have incredible people in my life. I have a deep connection with myself. I have mountains in my backyard. I have food on my table. I am healthy. I really do have all that I need.

And so, I’m choosing to be grateful for the difficult year. The adversity it brought, and the lessons it taught me.

And this whole simpler living? I think I’m going to keep it around, regardless of where my finances take me.

Came across this today and it hit.

ā€œI am slowly learning how to simply believe in the person I am becoming.ā€

This speaks my mind perfectly šŸ¤
